Went out to the Farm with my friends Victor and his family of great kids. We had a real nice time cooking wieners and mash mellows and other stuff and ate till we stuffed and the kids played and hid eggs and we all had a great time Victor has been in the country over 20 years and all his 7 kids were born here. I have known Victor fro sometime now and he is truly an americanized Mexican He loves this country but still has ties to the old country as his mother has a large ranch way down past Mexico City out in no-mans land.
Not all Mexicans are bad for the country ones like Victor and his family are a real pluss in my book. And I am no Mexican Lover so this is a real treat to meat such a nice family.

I live in a rust belt area and some of the toughest most worn out old Slavic,Italian and Irish neighborhoods are being rebuilt by Latin and Asian immigrants.
Anyone that works hard to provide for/build a better life for their family is someone I will always be proud to call a neighbor.
America doesn't need less people willing to work hard and sacrifice to build their dreams, it needs more.
Can't say the same about politicians and the citizens they pander too with their hands out!

Individually, they can be all right, they have the same problems and goals as most anyone else.
BUT, if you get two or more together, they are afraid of being seen as too white by their compadres, and will make the most of them being Mexican.
Old saying is: You can take the Mexican out of Mexico, but you cannot take Mexico out of the Mexican.

I have to disagree with you on that one knowing Victor and his family they all are very proud of living here in America I have to say that I have known a few Mexicans in my lide but none his family they really want to be like us but still retain their heritage. Victor gets mad at his brother and wife for not learning English better than they have but as I told him he's part of the problem he shouldn't only talk to her in English thus forcing her to learn it.
All in all though I really like this family and they seem to like me as they call me a lot and the kids are always asking me about my family and how it was here when i was young they just want to learn.

walt, no doubt there are some down to earth Mexican folks. I truly believe that. It's just the black sheep who think they can get their way by displacement and occupation of neighborhoods often through the use of intimidation and violence.

When I was growing up in Eastern Iowa in the 60's and 70's we had several Mexican-American families in our end of town. While they maintained their Mexican heritage, they also learned and spoke english and assimilated into the American culture. They would be good role models for some of the current crop of immigrants that are now coming into our country.
