On the smaller units there is a clutch disk on the flywheel..I've seen the center of the disk ripped loose...Maybe a cheap fix...OR NOT...

The early Ford S-O-S transmission does not have a reputation for great reliability and has a reputation for expensive repairs. A few mechanics have said these reputations are not deserved, but only if the mechanic had grown up fixing them were repairs sucessful and reliable.

Well, I screwed that up! Should have said Select-O-Speed, hence S-O-S.

Hasting might be to far for me.

Could it be a Select-O-Matic? Also know as an SOS. Post on Ford board. Lots on smart fellers on there.

If he doesn't want to fix it I would be interested in purchase if close enough.
