Thanks for the replys on this last week. We got the starter problem fixed, it was both a bad battery and corroded cables. The cover that is the bottom half of the bellhousing is missing. The flexplate doesn't appear to be broken but it seems to be bent. Useing a srewdriver held against it as an indicator it is bent maybe as much as 1/16th of an inch. This probably accounts for the vibration, but would it damage the transmission? When turning the motor by hand it seems to hit spots that are very hard to turn. Seems harder than compression would account for. Could this binding be the flexplate or something hanging up in the transmission? Thanks again Mike

I wouldn't worry about that 1/16".

However, the converter can be rotated/mounted in 3 different positions for balancing purposes.

You might try repositioning it to try and eleminate that vibration.

Be sure and use the indexing slot first upon reassembly or you'll leave cuss marks on the paint. :>)

Allen the original problem was that the car moved like parking brake was about half way on in drive then it wouldn't move at all in drive only reverse. The starter problem I thought was connected but turned out not to be. The fluid is full and doesn't smell burn't. Thanks alot for you help. Mike
