Found today that my distributor cap was cracked from one side to the other and every tip burn't down bad in it. So looked at points. lol Was only one side on top and bottom left to spark with. The rotor was burn't and to rough to even sand up to use. So now I am thinking... oh know! How did this tractor even run! So then I called O'Reilly Auto Parts and just on a wim asked. Do you have a distributor cap for this old 1958 Case 4 cylinder gas tractor. The guy says" I think I do! Bring yours in for me to see and get that name off the distributor. Went to Laurie to parts store and he not only had the cap. But the points the rotor and condenser and a new feeler gauge to set points for this old tractor. Yeepieeeee eeeee ee! Got it all for total of with tax $41.43 ... Made my day! :)
Got it all in and running and starting smooth.

Know how you feel and am glad for you. Maybe that store is adjacent to a farming community where old tractors are plentiful. This brings in a sideline business for them and explains why they had your parts in stock.

We have one too which is especially geared to support Ford, meaning they carry a lot of common use Ford parts. Other things they can order for you. One reason for the stocking is that I live near a metropolitan area and there are a lot of city folks who move to the country (sort of), buy a few acres and an old Ford tractor to take care of it.

So there are 3 guys in the area near the auto parts store who rebuild them and sell them.

Mark

Well around here.. the tractor supply closes it's door around noon time. So here I set after that time and going. Um um ummmm can't even get the parts I need if they had it even! Seems they always have to order it and you wait. I never figured that auto parts store would have stock on hand for something that dang old and cheap as I see it.
For when you mention tractor parts needed around here. It's like say.. ok.. here is my first $100.00 and how much more is needed. lol

Isn't it amazing how good it makes you feel when they start purring like a kitten. Congrats on your success, makes me want to get out to the garage to work on dads wd45. He left it in my garage for the winter so I reengineered our homemade 3 point conversion but it still has a very bad miss from last summer that I haven't got to yet. Maybe tomorrow after I plow the 12 or 14 inches of snow out of the drive. Enjoy your tractor, Mike
