Friend of mine has an old 479. When you lower the sickle to cut the outside(farthest away) from the PTO hangs down further and drags in the dirt. Because of this you have to keep the sickle up higher, which does not allow for a better cut on the grass. He brought out an old skid shoe he said came off the bottom but New Holland says the only skid shoe is under the gear box. Any one have a good diagram or seen this problem before?
Thanks

I had a 479 for years, it was a very good unit. If the outside is dragging either the springs on that side are not adjusted right or they have lost some of their spring. The spring part that the bolt goes through to anchor them can be unscrewed from the spring, cut off a bit of the spring, reattach the anchor, making them shorter and stronger.

Both sides used the same skid shoe and they should still be available from the dealer. I think the 499 and other haybines used the same shoe.

You should have a skid shoe for the outside too.

You need one part 216426 and two part 174633.

They are mounted the same distance in from the outside.

I just looked up the 479 on the cnh parts lookup. The pic only shows one shoe but the parts list clearly says two. So the pic just doesn't show the outer one
