i need fast help i replaced both air brake regulator valves, [ the ones over each drive axle,] 1 was leaking ant i thought better do both for safety, well the rear one works fine but the front one leaks air out the bottom exhaust port, the lines will only fit one way and im positive ive got them on correctly [ this isnt the first one of these ive done] i disasembled the valve and didnt find anything wrong in there the big 'plastic disc" on top moves smoothly and the small one on the bottom under the spring moves also, i put the old valve back on but itleaks too, [ it leaked when i started] i should mention the new valve leaks when the park brake is realeased, not when it is applied, can it be anything other than a bad new regulator valve? is there anything i can do to run tommorrow, this has already cost me a lost 800 bucks due to not being able to run the truck plus the parts, plus the whole weekend messing with it, the parts house will have another valve in tommorrow, sorry for the long ot post but i needed to supply as much info as possible to get a solution, thanks ericlb

Somewhere you are getting feedback to the axle where its leaking. Its most likely the emergency brake chamber on the wheel that has them causing this.Inside of the emergency brake chamber it probly has a broken diaphram. Its easier to change the chamber than to replace the diaphram. If you take it off keep the air hooked to it to hold the spring back,if you dont know what I mean ask some body to show you.You could put a dime in it and run for a day or 2 but you would loose that brake.

If it is a leaking can, find the fitting that's leaking back into the hose and put a dime in there between the hose end and the fitting and tighten her down. It's invisible to the DOT if they do a quick sixty second spot check. Jim

I agree that ou have a leaking Maxi can. It is leaking between thespring brake side and the service brake side. The vise grip idea works, but I was always leery about doing that to the lines. Just unhook the service line (the one closest to the slack adjuster ).on each can. Then release the parking brake (WHEELS CHOCKED!), and listen for the air coming out of a fitting on the bad can. Replace the can, Don't open it up. Those springs will take your head off.
Be safe

If you apply the maxi's and clamp a vise grip to the actuator rod directly against the bottom of the can you can then release the band on the SERVICE chamber. The band closest the slack adjuster... The vise grip prevents the rod from traveling home when the chamber is removed. Get a piggy back chamber and a new diaphram and install that in place. It's the quickest way to get mobile if the base of the service chamber is good.... if not, replace the entire chamber.
DO NOT under any circumstances cut the band off the maxi chamber. I don't believe it's removable anyway... you would need to cut it on a Bendix chamber. If you're really worried about it, cage the maxi spring with the cage bolt which is provided with every new chamber.

I suspect that there is(are) bad diaphram(s) in one of the maxi chambers. I'd take the service lines loose from the chambers and then release the maxi's. Which ever chamber is shooting air out the service fitting has the bad diaphram. A new piggyback chamber is probably the quickest way out unless you don't mind buggering with cutting the rods and fitting a new clevis for a whole new chamber. Cost is probably less for the complete chamber though...

you most likely have a brake diaphram leaking. take some long nose vise grips and clamp off the line to each brake chamber until the leak stops. then replace the brake chamber that is attached to that air line.
