Has anybody ever changed out the 2 bearings on there press wheel on a Haybuster 107 no-till drill?I already have the new bearings and the outside diameter of the bearing is crowned in the middle.the press wheel is one piece and all metal and it looks to me if you try to push out the old bearing it will disfigure the metal that holds the bearing in.And the new bearing would be loose in the press wheel

Replaced all of the bearings on my 107 2 yrs ago. The bearings are the Fafnir type used without the locking collars. Each press wheel has 2 bearings. Remove the three bolts that hold the flanges on, remove and replace the bearings, tighten the three bolts. Check for wear on the shaft. Bearings were cheaper at dealer (Triple H Equip. Peach Bottom Pa) than anywhere else. Only thing was I had to take all of the locking collars as well. Now have 36 locking collars w/o bearings. Not a bad job actually.

Thanks for the replies and keep them coming. My wheels do not have the plates you talked about Andrew. My drill is probally a little newer than yours because the new Haybusters do not have that plate.I will look for spot welds to see if it started out as 2 pieces.

I'm not familiar w/ the Haybuster press wheels, but some manufacturers seat the bearing between the 2 halves of the wheel and then press it together and spot weld the 2 halves together. The idea is save on initial cost, plus force you to replace entire assembly when bearings fail. You can get around this by drilling out the spot welds and then bolting or riveting the halves back together.

Ya sure you have the correct bearings?

Those curved outer edge kind usually fit in the two-piece bolt-on retainer.

Also,

Sometimes, a curved edge bearing will fit into a boss. It is installed and removed by being turned 90° "sideways" intering/exiting via a slot in the boss.
