Trees Of Heaven............a Misnomer

I"m running an electric fence and there"s one area where there"s a grove of Trees of Heaven going along the field fencing.
These things are horrible! Very rapid growing and will grow in and through the field fencing. They"re real shallow rooted so they come out easy enough, but very prolific and there are hundreds of "em where the wire has to go. Most of "em aren"t really in the way, but when I try to pull out the ones to make room for the wire, the other trees are in the way and prevent the trees I need to pull out from tipping over.
Oh well, I guess it"s like eating an elephant; one bite at a time.

How about the idea of using a block (cable pulley with hook) to drag them farther into the patch. If needing to be "good" to the trees used to anchor the block, a tire tread would buffer the chain from ripping bark. JimN

Boy Jim,
That's exactly what I have and I really appreciate the info. Regarding being gentle with the other trees: I don't have any love for these things and would love to have them erradicated. With your info, this might be the year.

Thanks very much.

Chuck

Well that's one definition. The stuff we have around here in Virginia that we call tree of heaven is related to Royal Palonia. The seem to grow in the same areas and at the same rates. The Royal Palonia has a really big leaf (locals call it "Big Leaf" and is very valuable. One tree can be worth like $5000. I cut one in July and by October the sprouts were 10 feet tall. Trees will couple feet across in 20 year.
