Just wondering how many of ya all have a flag flown at your farm or home. Although we have some issues , we still live in the greatest country on earth. We currently have a 3x5 on a 15' pole, but this summer we are putting up the a taller pole and getting a larger flag and want to get a Minnesota flag as well, because I am proud to be an American and a Minnesotan. How bout the rest of you all. Watched a "Cheverolet" commercial during Agday with that John Melloncamp song this am and I thought I would ask the question, do you display the colors of our great country.

Hey Dan While restoring dad's 1936 WC Allis, after the frame rails were sand blasted I discovered big as life on the inside of the rails in big bold script "UNITED STATES STEEL". Amazing how things have changed. Harry Case, Allis, Moline nut

Your post from this morning disappeared, but there are forum troubles. I posted- Google--"proper US flag display." Our place? 90 foot and 50 foot Harvestore silos have the flag panels on top. 90 footer also has the Christmas (not xmas) star.

Last Christmas ( year ago ) my wife got me a flag pole and flag from Sportsman's Guide and I finally put it up in May. Put a Quartz lite on the bottom of the deck with a light sensor on it to light it at night. Wind is terrible around here, put a slight bend in the pole. Had to replace the flag last fall, and will need another this spring. Ice storm in Dec. bent pole over at the ground, so I cut it off and put it back up. Got the small stick flags like the cemetary's use on veterans graves and put one by each of the 8 trees in the front yard. Got the 1850 cleaned up for local tractor ride last summer, put 2 small ones on the front and a bigger one on the back. left the 2 small ones on, like to see them waving when useing it. Need to contact local VFW or American Legion about disposing of faded and wore out flags. We have a flag at little country church that flies all the time. It got tore up and someone took it down, but never replaced it. I bought another last summer and put it up. Lots of complements on it. Both grandfathers, Dad, all uncles were vet's, son is in the Navy now. Thanks to all veterans. Chris

Maybe this will seem silly to you, but I just can"t bring myself to "properly dispose" of my worn out flags. I have a whole collection of them in my tack room.

Bring them to your local VFW or American Legion post for free proper disposal. Most glad to do it for you.

Be interesting to know how many of the US flags flying proud are actually made in the US? I'd bet not many.

If you look at a lot of old tractor pictures, you will notice around the time of world war one lots of those big prairie tractors had flags on them. We proudly display the flag of the United States of America on our farm.

Dave,

Back in the early 1970's I was living near Stewartville, MN. The local Jaycees sponsored a program to sell and install flag poles for people. I bought one, and although I've lived in five different states since then, I've bought and installed a flag pole at each place where I've lived.

I have a 15 foot pole on my farm here in Middle Tennessee with a 3 X 5 flag flying every day.

America - love it or leave it.

I used to fly a 3x5 on the fence corner of the driveway until the pole broke. Once, after I put a brand new flag out, some jerk stole it. I then changed how the flag attached to the pole so you had to have some tools to get the flag off. Our place in Dallas is roughly a complete city block. At each corner I have small 3in x 5in stick flags on the corner post and one post to each side (3 flags at each corner). I also have the small stick flags on each of the gate posts. I have a flag sticker on the rear windshield of my truck and a 4 x 5 magnetic sticker on the tailgate that shows a serviceman in camos in front of our flag and says "Support our troops". My dad was career Airforce, his brother was career Army, his sister married an Army captain. My mother's brother did a hitch in the Navy. My husband was in the Airforce and his dad was a bombardier in WWII then served in the reserves. My husband and I make a point of shaking the hand of every military person (male or female) we see and telling them how much we appreciate what they are doing for ME! So, yeah, I support our country and our troops. YOU BET I DO!!!!

One on the peak of the garage, and one on the corner corall fence post along the driveway. I too, am planning a yard display this summer with a flag pole as a top priority.

Had only yellow but to me it stands out. *S Will change it to white or silver this summer. IF I can get something to raise me up to top. LOL

I fly a 3x5 US and a 3x5 Indiana State flag on a 25" pole. The flags are lighted from beneath dusk to dawn and fly in all weather. I usually replace them twice a year due to wear.

I have not yet as I don't have a flagpole, but I did buy a very nice old flag at an auction not to long ago, it's a 9x5 linen flag from the 1950s. I'm going to hang it vertically from the porch until I get a suitable flag pole. Our house is 1/4 mile off the road, so I don't want to put the pole out front in fear of someone stealing the flag.

Yes, I am proud to say I do fly both the U.S. flag as well as the Texas flags at my Ranch. They are 3x5 flags and I have one on each side of my entrance gate at the road. Both are mounted on 10 foot pieces of conduit which slips into another shorter piece screwed to the top of the posts. That way they are easy to take down for replacement, etc.

By the way, my Texas flag is flown at the same height as the U.S. flag as is customary and legal in Texas. They serve as an easy landmark when giving directions to people who are coming for the first time.

It's "legal" to burn the flag too, but it's considered a sign of disrespect. I'm proud of the state I live in too, but it's only part of the US. Stars and bars should hang higher than state flag.

Yes I fly an American flag, state flag and US ARMY flag. All at CORRECT height.

Your right, it is legal to burn an American flag because it"s the ONLY way to properly dispose of one that"s old and worn out. Burning the flag is only a sign of disresspect when it"s done by someone who"s sole desire is to show disrespect. Say what you will but personally I"d rather watch someone "disrespect" my flag by burning it, thereby disposing of it in a proper fashion where they can"t disrespect it anymore, rather than pulling it behind a vehicle on the ground, walking over it, or whatever. By doing anything other than actually burning and disopsing of it, they have the opportunity to show off the flag with the signs of their disrespect all over it. It pi$$es me off to see one burned like that but considering the alternative I think that"s their best approach because it limits their ability to disrespect it and flaunt it later.

Disrespect --- at my work place a few years ago, we had some contract people doing some repairs on our building....at morning break time one of them showed up with US flag sewed on the seat of his pants.....I ask him why on the bottom of his pants...he said so he could fart through it....I told him if he came back in the afternoon with that flag still there,I would take it off for him....after noon break ,word got out the break area was full (100)and standing in the hall....when I got there the flag was gone..... .

The flag burning I was refering to is NOT done to dispose of a worn flag. I'm talking about those who burn flags as a way of deliberate disrespect of what that flag stands for. The Supreme Court says we have the right to destroy a perfectly good flag as a way to show our displeasure with the country. I wholeheartedly DISAGREE with that concept. IMHO, If someone feels so strongly about destroying the symbol of our country as a way of showing their dislike for where we live, they have the right to LEAVE this country any time they so choose. I'll be more than happy to lend them a suitcase.

It is NEVER appropriate to fly ANY flag equal to or higher than the American flag.

The flag is more than a chunk of cloth. It is what our ancestors died to keep. I know many of you respect it greatly. Let's keep informing those that don't in a polite but knowledgeable manner.

Off my soap box now.

Actually you are supposed to fly another countries flag at the same height as the American Flag. That is if you are going to fly another countries flag along with the US flag. The flag of Norway gets flown here a lot.
