Wondering if anyone out there knows what a 20' goliath 7.5 hp unloader is worth. I bought a 20x55 harvestore and will not be using it.

Also, what does it cost to take the silo down?

That is what I thought it was worth. This is a white top from ?late 70"s. It has the 1776-1976 flag on it so a little common sense, right?

The silo is in Michigan. A ways from home for me but if anyone is interested in the unloader I can post pictures once I get some of all the critical parts.

So, does anyone know what it costs just to take it apart and reassemble it? I am planning the summer for a flat foundation pour as it will be a top unloader and cleaning all the old sealant off. I only need dissassembly and reassembly like a grain bin, kind of.

Not to be critical.... but why would you want to convert it to a top unloader? If you want a top unloader, why not just buy a stave silo? It seems to me that if you convert big blue, you defeat the purpose of it? I am just curious since I don't know a whole lot about them...

Few weeks ago the guy down the road took down a 100' blue top, for free too. He got his cutting torch and cut a wedge out of it like you would a tree and stuck an chunk of wood in there to hold it up. Then the cut most the way around. Next he wraped a chain around the chunk of wood and hooked it to the big Case and pulled that wood out. They said people heard it fall 2 miles away. It blew the top off and mashed it flat as a pancake. He hauled it off for scrap metal then.

Must have been a 25X90, don't think they made a 100 footer yet. If it was a 90, the guy was nuts to scrap it, they are less than 20 years old and still bring good money for some reason.

I was told it was 100'. not sure though. They got more money than they know what to do with and wanted to tear it down to put up a better barn to put steers in.

Got to thinking about it, if it was a blue top it is no more than 70 foot, and is at least 40 years old. but if it is a white top the biggest the steel could be is 25x90.

You are probably right. I don't know too much about those blue silos. Here at home we just have a 60' cement one that grandpa put up in 1967 so he could feed more cattle. I don't think he liked forking it out of the snowfence silo either. But they had to fork out 22 doors of the cement silo in 1969 because the unloader broke way up at the top and for whatever reason couldn't fix it while it was up there.

Where are you located? I might be interested in the unloader. Like the other post said condition will greatly dictate price. Also if its old enough that it has two ratchet wheels instead of one it is old enough you can't get parts from harvestore that's why I may be interested either way maybe I can update or I might need one for parts someday. Saw a 20x60 on an auction and they couldn't get a bid on it to be moved. Years ago it cost at least $10000 to get one taken down moved and put back up. You can put in an unloading auger and a fan and put grain in it, fill with a vac/blower or put in a hatch on the side that an auger will reach. Lee

Big issue is the condition of the chain and sprockets. Some years ago, that repair would be 3 grand. I"ve bought two used, one for $2500, I think $4000 for the other, which had a fairly new chain in. Stainless link chain is worth less- they wear out faster than the original style. If the backbone is rusted thin, machine is not worth much.

If the old silo is concrete stave construction, talk to landscapers in your area. Those concrete staves make wonderful retaining walls at these multi-million dollar new homes being built. Just my 2 cents worth.

Around here a few years ago they would pay a 1000 or so dollars for a 50 ft white top if it was in good condition. Also remember some other deal that they would take it down and if/when it sold, they would return some of the profit. Older blue tops and any short silo they didn't want.
