OK so i got my case 1030 all torn apart and the "new" block will be done on WED of next week. i ordered a new clutch and pressure plate today. BUT my mechanic that is helping me says that i should put a whole new oil pump in too. BUT a new oil pump is $700!! should i get a new one or just put a pressure gauge on it? if i did the gauge, where would i put the line that connects to the gauge? thanks

Your mechanic should be able to show you the tech manual and the spec"s--how to measure wear between the gears and housing, as well as the allowable end play on the pump. Went through that about a decade ago on a 2470, and the pump was about $1100. Re: where to put the gauge? Many engines have oil gallery plugs, 1/8 inch, along the block, typically one per cylinder. I keep one on my JD4450, just for a visual when the Investigator II monitor craps out. I like mechanical things over electronics. Could very well be an age issue!.
