I built one this morning out of a 3-point adaptor for just a couple of bucks, so we've crossed that hurdle.

However, I gots troubles tho. The old pump don't wanna do good. No pressure at all.

Haven't had it apart yet other than pull the pressure regulator out of it. Running, with the pressure hose off, oil just "dribbles" out.

Don't think that's quite right. Always something, it seems like. :>(

Vanes are stuck from sitting around doing nothing or maybe the reservoir / return hose is plugged not allowing oil into the pump. Take the return hose loose and see if oil pours out. If it does then take the pump apart and set the vanes loose from the rotor. Maybe some penetrating oil squirted in the return line inlet to the pump and left set overnite may unstick the gummy vanes. The vanes are forced out with the oil pressure but since you can't get any pressure they would just as soon lay back and take it easy.

Thanks Vern,

That's what I was wondering.

I've had a lot of 'em leak out that front seal, but never, ever one that just plain wouldn't pump at all. Just doesn't make any sense. They ‘bout gotta pump, don’t they????

Yes, I checked the inlet hose and it seems okay, so gonna rip 'er apart in the morning.

Centrifugal force won't force the vanes out? Yes, the pump has been inactive since forever.

I appreciate the help,

Allan

If they are varnish into the rotor the centrifugal force from the mass of the vane will not be enough to free them. Once one breaks free and begins to pump it will kick it's brothers into action. If you take it apart keep the vanes in the same slots and if I remember right they have a slight bevel on the outer trailing edge. Course you have plenty of experience to know all that.

Paul Backus just told me the same as you. Vanes are stuck or else it would be pumping. :>)

Ford used those on cars and trucks up until the mid sixties when they went with the Tompson Ramo Woolridge (TRW) pumps with the integral reservoir.
