Father in law is trying to talk me into only putting in the corn I need to finish 6-7 steers and forget the soybeans and put everything else in spring wheat. How does spring wheat seed/input cost compare to soybeans. If seed is inexpensive I may try to put some on that 10+ acre peice I was gonna let sit till fall. Think these prices will hold?

All three exchanges, Chicago, Kansas and Minneapolis all raised three daily trading limits for Mondays opening, now 60cents/day NOT the 30cents of before last week. It will be interesting to see what happens. Minneapolis has been the market rising the most of the last little while (up $5/bus since Jan 1). Not sure how long this can last. Someone once said the best cure for high prices is high prices... We'll have to see.

Read in the paper this morning where Durum wheat was at $25 bushel last week. When I was at home yet my dad always raised it. Would average about 30-35 bushels at that time. The elevators were fussy about it though I remember.

What's been in the field Dave? If it was hay or grass,I wouldn't waste time and money putting it to wheat.Even with prices where they are,you won't get enough yield to make it pay. I'd go to soybeans then wheat in the fall if you were just going to let it lay anyway. What did you do on that Oliver 1750? Did you buy it?

My feilds have been RR bean/corn rotation for 20 years. Sandy loam soil. That is my ground, 7-8 acres are seeded in rye now. The 10 acres I was gonna let sit til fall is next door, cheap/cheap rent. Is currently in a sparse pasture mix for last 3 years, was in soybeans 4 years ago. Is very light sandy soil. The 1750 is still on my pursuit list, but I have not been able to have a conversation with the owner to get together and so I can learn more. He is always gone, trying to sell homes. Sure would be a practical tractor for me for the money.
