Need guestimate what it would cost to replace the electrical wiring to the gauges and battery. I've been quoted a price of $100, which includes labor and parts. Is there a website I can print out a schematic for wiring required by the whole system and estimate of cost? Thanks for input from you experienced tractor owners.

1.) You can go to jdparts.com and look up the parts you need, and see a rough sketch of how it all fits together. To see pricing, you'll have to sign up with a nearby dealer.

2.) If you talk nice to the service manager at your nearby dealer, he can print off a copy of the wiring diagram for , for free, IF he wants to.

3.) If you are planing on keeping the tractor around, you REALLY need an operator's manual.

A Tech Manual is GREAT, as well. You can get the manuals by calling DEERE TechPubs @ 1-800-522-7448.

Operator's manual is $30.00, and the Tech Manual is $40.00 on CD, $80.00 hardcopy.

You need to have the serial # for any parts orders, as well as to get the correct manuals.

4.) WHAT EVER you do, get the wiring fixed RIGHT, including any circuit protective devices, and neutral safty switch(s). Cobbling it up will just lead to problems down the road, perhaps even an electrical fire that destroys the tractor, and whatever is near it!

Thanks for the info. What is a wiring harness? The quote I received was from a person who rebuilds equipment and resells it - but I want to be sure that I'm getting ALL the wiring replaced that is necessary for operation of the machine even if I need to pay a little more. Rats got into the wiring when I started parking under a pole barn, and the wires to the battery as well as other sites have been chewed up. I'm not knowledgeable about the elec. system of a tractor and want to be sure I'm not getting taken because of that.

What "Old Ford Mechanic" said- don"t get suckered into buying the new for buckoo (is that spelled right?) bucks. They are just wires. Find the schematic, note the wire colors and gauges, match to factory and you are good to go. OK- terminals might be hard to find, but it is doable.

A good mechanic with with electrical system knowledge, wire size, reading a schematic, connector types and ect.will be able to rebuild the electrical system and wiring on the tractor without buying all the high dollar factory parts.A good mechanic will use the correct wire colors and sizes that were original to the tractor. All that said, the price sounds a bit low for what you have described.I've spent that much on battery cable's and terminal ends in some cases.

Thanks for your input. I have a much clearer picture of my problem and how to correct it due to your expertise. Where would I find a source for the schematic? Didn't get a manual when I purchased the tractor. If you're thinking right now, "this one is dumb as a post" you're RIGHT. That's why I'm picking your brains.
