Here's a picture of the #2 cylinder between the sleeve and engine.

Here is the middle main bearing with the antifreeze drops on it, right below #2. #3 is in the background.

What do you guys think?

Thanks again

I've already got the head off and I didn't find any problems with it on a quick check and assessment. Looks like time for a new block, considering the dry sleeves?

Thanks

GET THE SLEEVE OUT FIRST! While it may be a futile attempt at saving the engine, you never know what you will find.

Yep,

I wouldn't even mess with that one; just find another that is a known good runner.

Looks like teardown time. Cross your fingers and hope its not the block.

That does not look good! Are you fixing that engine or not?

a good machine shop can bore the block and then you can set a new or use the old one, ithave done a number of them like that and it works, i fact had to bore and set new slevves in 2 and 3 on a 39 M and its out there running about every day, that was 20 years ago.

I used a product called Irontite from Napa follow directions and it probably will seal the leak. I would give it a try. It has worked for me in the past several times. Stan

M's have what we call dry sleeve No seals needed its more than likely sad to say that you have a crack in the block between the sleeve & block itself replace block is all you can do. i do have 2 extra blocks on hand one is a super M block but im guessing your not in northeast nebraska ?

With the spark plug out is that cylinder full of coolant? If so head gasket or head itself needs some help.Unless upper part of cylinder liner and block are bad.

I think the seal (o-ring?) between the sleeve and block has deteriated. A quick fix would be a little stop leak. A better and more permanent fix, especially if the engine is already torn down, is to pull the sleeves (all of them) and replace the seals. The best way is to install a new sleeve kit.

No seals on an M, the cylinder bore is cracked or rusted through.

In that case, stop-leak is the (half assed) way to go for a quick fix.

I think that unless you're a very lucky fellow and you have a head gasket issue (which I rather doubt) there is a fault with your block in that cylinder. If it was mine, I'd have the head off and see if an there was an apparent head gasket issue and if not I'd keep on trucking and pull that liner. Hope this helps, tractorsam
