Well, I don't know how to even relate to those with numbers in the hundreds. I have six and only half run, the rest are on standby to restore as time goes by. Some are family heirlooms so are important. I also have a 35 chev ton and a half bought new by my grandfather, a 29 model a ford my mom drove to college, a 1974 ford bronco I bought new, and about 20 antique implements. Plenty to keep me out of micshief, my wife should be happy.

I was at an auction once, and overheard a young wife complaining to another gal that her husband had bought two old tractors. She thought it was a terrible waste of money. At that time I had to pass on this philosophy. " You can't have too many tractors or too many guns, however you can have too many women." She gave me a dirty look, but didn't make any more comments about old tractors. LOL

Well I think that too many tractors - Is having them and either not being able to care for them, or "putting your self out" for them. It seems that tractors are pretty good investments, especially if they are being used and maintained.

Here is some pretty funny stuff the first link is real.... A club for women.

The second link I made today for fun in response.

Don't ever number them, give them names. Wife doesn't get as upset when you say your going to work on Olive Oil as she would when you say I'm going to work on super 88 # 42. Buy as many of the same kind as possible, she can't tell them apart. NEVER line them all up in the yard side by side. Buy one you don't want and sell it. Then you can always remind her that you did sell one once. Buy her one, maybe she'll get interested on want more. This information has to be correct, because I got it from the King, Roger Welsh. Oh, NO, you can never have tooo many tractors!!! Chris

A friend of mine asked me last fall how many I have. I told him that I didn't know if I had nine or ten. He said that if I wasn't sure how many I had, I have too many so, I went and counted. Now I know how many I have and, I'm looking for another.

When I started using the neighbors property to turn around on I guess that would be to many unless they said I could use their place to park some then I wouldn't have enough.Told other half I would fix up 2 tractors a year and then when she looked and I had bought 6 in 2 months she wanted to know what happened to the 2 a year I just said that I was trying to catch up for the last 30 or so years.Whoops

I have a couple way of thinking about it.
1. If I have duplicates then I have 1 too many (of the duplicate).
2. I think it is only fair that I have 1 tractor for every pair of shoes she has that I see (knowing good and well there are some I won't ever see). I guess I have a long ways to go. :)
3. If you can't give each one a little attention in a year than you obviously don't need it.

When you have to spend money for more storage space rather than spending money for more tractors.

that all depends on if you go to use one and it won't start or is broken that you forgot it was broke and didn't get fixed since the last time you wanted to use it then That Tractor is one to many. However since you have one broke or not starting you need one to take it's place. So then you gripe to the wife i don't know why i keep that tractor as it never is in working condition when i need it. But if i try to sell i'll won't get what i should because it doesn't work. When you get the replacement say your Cockshutt 50 is the one that doesn't work so you buy a a Cockshutt 40 as they look alike. When you get the 50 working make sure your wife doesn't see then both at the same time. If this works tell me and i'll try it.

One for every piese of eqitment sounds about normal. One for the mower, one for the rake, one for the baler, and one with the loader.

Makes for quite a site to see roling trough ditch like a big parade. LOL

Depends on what you're doing with them. If they are just sitting, the sky's the limit. If you use them, have to keep them up,batteries, tires etc,I'd say 3 is a good number.

The ad I saw in Engineers and Engines magazine said no buyer's premium. But I trust Hilpipre to be in the bidding for his own collection and sales lots. So I will NOT be there.

Next step is to get even faster, with three tractors- one each for mower, rake and baler. No troublesome unhitching and rehitching, etc. Sometimes lobbying is best done a little at a time, instead of swinging for the fences.

Mike, that ain't enough. You need one more to pull the bale wagon to the barn, and one more to run the hay elevator.

Patience, Rusty, patience. With a reluctant spouse, that comes next year, after being sure to get in a lot of sighing and gnashing of teeth this summer about what a hassle it is to go get the rake tractor out of the south field and unhook the rake so you can pull the bale wagon, etc.
