Just bought a 1941 Ford 9N tractor. Wondering about a few things. 1- Did this tractor come in gray paint only? 2- why do some photos of 9n tractors have exhaust stacks coming out of the cowling on top, and mine does not. Serial no. of 9n83110 confirms a 1941 Ford. New to this, can someone help Thanks, Roger Perreault

Roger..... ..ALL 9N/2N's came from the factory solid GRAY everywhere. Variously described as industrial gray, battleship gray, forest gray. Many were later painted the more colorful 8N litegray & vermilion red. Its yer tractor, paint it enny color that pleases you.

2. Due to excessive dirt clouds raised by mechanical weed control, many 9N's had an air breather bonnet extended thru the hood back by the driver. The optional vertical exhaust is "looped" forward from the back of manifold with muffler extending upwards from front of engine outside the hood by dogleg.

Recommend you squander $25 (cheap) for the I&T FO-4 manual. Readily available from sponsors of this great Ford board, www.n-news.com also has great archive of implement manuals, CNH Ford/New Holland dealers sell it, even my local (byte my tongue) John Deere parts counter sells it..... ..HTH, Dell

Lots of good info down on the 9N - 8N board. Originally the 9n and 2N were all gray. Some have been painted with later Ford colors to make them look newer or because the owner liked the newer colors better. Here is a link to some info to help identify your tractor.
