Has anyone changed the window motor on a 2000 GMC siera pickup. Also should you change just the motor or the motor and regulator. How bad of a job is this? Thanks for the help.

check the cables on the regulator, they rust and frey causing a groaning sound. Not bad to fix, half dozen bolts and about an hour tops. I got an 01 and have done both sides. John

look, the advice on the regulator is right. if it is a cable drive regulator buy a new one and put it in. they break all the time. its a stranded cable running over plastic guides and the guides break. at this point buy new. my computer show aftermarket but id have to call gm price 175.00 jim

the motor and track are all in one unit with cables that criss cross . basically an unservicable unit .not a bad job to do at all once you get door panel unsnapped.Paul

Changed a couple Fords. All that really was wrong was excess grease got into the motor brushes. Summertime preferred.

Go with what Bo said. Take door panel off and see if the gears and linkage are dry. Might try lubing up before buying that window motor. Not to hard to change as long as you can stand on your head and have small hands.

FWIW,

Check the wiring loom coming thru the hinge area of the door pillar. They have a real nasty habit breakin' wires and it's usually always that most used driver's door.

Thanks Allan, but the motor when it works groans like a bad bearing or something. Dont know if its the motor or regulator.

Might not be the motor...the linkages for the window may be binding. Often a moaning motor means that it"s trying to run but it doesn"t have the power to get past a resistance, like a binding linkage.
