Any of you engine builders know if a crower 498/501 cam is a rough idle cam or a steady idle cam in a 350 chevy engine.

Too high of lift and too long of duration can and also often ends up in bent valves and holes in pistons where they slapped the valves. What's your compression ratio and piston dome contour in relation to all of that? And again, what are you going to be doing with this engine? Breathing is always a good thing, but has to be components. And as Buick eluded to, your valve train has to be able to deal with lift. A solid and effective engine is built by matching components with each other. You ever seen that show "Pinks"? I have a couple of times, for as long as I could stomach. Forget them guys, they aren't daily drivers, and if they are, not for long. Keep it simple, make it match. By the way, those valves in those heads? I wouldn't be wasting money on lift or duration for them...they already don't match.

How are you going to keep the rocker arms from binding, the rocker arm studs from pulling out of the head and how are you going to prevent the valve springs from stacking solid and binding? What pistons and cylinder head are being used?

Its funny that you mention the valve springs stacking and pulling the studs out. Back in the 60"s I had a 348 c.i. chevy that did this. I was working in an automotive machine shop and the owner let me use any equipment for free on my own time, plus sold all the parts to me for his cost. I knew nothing about matching components then, only big was better for bragging rights. I tapped the heads, installed threaded studs, and put roller rocker arms on. The cam still had too much lift and duration, consequently no low end torque. thanks for the memories. Rick

Won't work. The stock engine will run the 1/4 mile faster than a miss matched engine.

It depends on the LSA (lobe seperation angle) and duration also. Not knowing those, I would still say it's probably gonna be a rougher idle. I'd say that cam is a little much IF in a stock 350.
