How do i find what model and year it is on the tractor so i can help him find parts. The engine has a slight miss and the bowl at the carb is leaking. It is also an automatic transmitiom. 10 forward and i belive 3 reverse.

On the right hand side where the transmission case and the engine come together there is usually a flat spot where serial numbers and possibly model numbers are stamped. If they are still visible, they should help you ID this machine.

Either someone has too much free time and a junkyard or its not a 9N. The 9N has 3 foward and 1 reverse speed.

You posted "The 9N has 3 foward and 1 reverse speed."

That IS true, UNLESS it has one of several aftermarket auxillary transmissions, Lanse, which are reasonably come on the old "N's", at least in some areas of the country.

But the "automatic" (powershift) thing DOES rule out the older tractors.

If it has powershift, it is AT LEAST 12 to 15 years NEWER than the last 9N.

That tranny is the "SOS"... Select-O-Speed, and it was available in a variety of number-series tractor models AFTER the 9N, 2N, 8N, and NAA.

Post on the "FORD" Board, and one of the gurus there can narrow it down more for you.

"How do i find what model and year it is on the tractor so i can help him find parts."

?

You said your youngest son says it is a model 9N.
Look on the left of any YT page and click on Serial Numbers to find out the year.
