Do anyone of you use a tread mill in the winter time? I sure do need something to wear off the cabin fever. I just set up our tread mill and enjoy the walk or run.

Set one up for my ex-wife last week. Her first attempt was one fourth of a quarter mile. She stopped because I made her "self conscious".

That night she tripped over it in the dark on her way to the bedroom.

She did a whole lap the next day and burned 62 calories. I told her 4 more laps and you can have a candy bar. She said "Thats not funny".
She is up to about 130 lbs now and enjoys chocolate too much.

I use ours every day. Monday, wednesday, and friday I jog 3 miles in about half hour, and on tuesday and thursday I do sprints for 10-15min. I use saturday and sunday to rest. I hit it kinda hard, but I"m also trying to get into law enforcement and need to be in shape to pass the physical test.

When I was a kid, my eldest brother and dad put together this nifty contraption. It wasn't a treadmill, but more of an exercise bike. They took an old bicycle and welded a bracket onto it to hold a generator that the pedals drove (chain drive on back sprocket.) They had an old electronics kit with a relay arrangement on it, and spliced the relay to the coax going to the tv.

Net result was that if you were pedaling, the relay closed and you could watch tv. but if you stopped pedaling, the picture went away.

It would have been a great exercise idea...Except mom had this nifty idea that she'd sit in a chair and delegate the pedaling duties to the other 3 kids.

I've wondered about this lately. With all the talk of being "green" why couldn't some of these health clubs figure out a way to take the human energy being expended (treadmill, stationary bikes, etc) and convert it into usuable electricity.

Probably a million-dollar idea.

I've made a fairly comprehensive study of exercise equipment, and believe my preference is the Bow-Flex. It has all those "Power Rod" thingies sticking up in the air, and you can hang much more clothing on it than on the rail of a treadmill.

Hmmm- guess I'm not connecting here- if you're already hanging them off a Bow Flex, why would you want to shoot them into a closet? Just leave well enough alone- when you've come up with a good system, just go with it, and don't try to impress your mother-in-law.

Yes. It's a good way to start the day. Walking the treadmill kind of spins your starter a little faster in the morning. There's no need to run a marathon on it unless you want to. Just a good 2 1/2 to 3 MPH pace for 30 minutes or so is all that's needed.

If part of your body's hurting you can modify the speed or slope to fit your comfort zone. It's a good tool. Jim

Use mine daily. Go for 1/2 hour-1.5 miles. Bought one new. I'll never do that again. Advertise in your local Shoppers Guide or whatever. There are a ton of them out there that got used for a month, then never again. I paid $200 for mine with power elevation, lots of different programs, etc. and have used it for about 8 years.

use 60 minutes a day-run 2 miles and walk 2 miles( well not for the past 2 weeks-hurt my knee and running aggravates it)It does wonder for your health and winter blays. Should be a standard in all homes-like a refrigerator or stove.

You bet. Have a treadmill set up in heated garage in front of wall mount t.v. Try to walk for 50 minutes each day.

Use the tread mill every day in the snowy weather. Also use the stationary bike. Put a T V up on a shelf to watch while doing so. Too slippery and dangerous to walk outside.

I try to use the eliptical as much as I can, then for a few weeks before I do my annual stress test for work I'll switch to the treadmill. The elliptical is much easier on the knees.

An eliptical is a machine that gives you a no impact workout. You stand on two footboards that are attached to a wheel behind you and in front it is attached to two poles that you hold on to. Kind of like cross country skiing. Google eliptical machine and you can get a better ideaof how it works.
