The original subject was "ford 6.0 powerstroke block heater?".

I custom ordered my 04 powerstroke, but the block heater came standard. I just got off the phone with the head service tech at the dealership and he said if you are going to park it for a period of overnight or longer and its below 32 degrees, then plug it in. It is located behind the right tow hook. If you take the front LP bracket off (its hell if you don't, you will cut up your hand on the auxillary transmission cooler), then you can reach it easily and poke it out through the tow hook opening (there's plenty of slack in the cord to do this). I then used a zip tie and tied the cord to the tow hook so it would stay easily accessible. Problem solved.

I'm actually in conversation with FoMoCo over my failed attempts at repairing my oil leak. We thought they had it licked last May when they replaced the whole front cover... nope.

I'm asking them to just replace the truck, or at least the whole motor at this point. I know Ford and Navistar were pretty heated for a while there and Navistar actually made a public announcement that they shipped their last engine to FoMoCo. That was about this time last year. Obviously they reconciled, but I sure hope they can reconcile with me as well.

Otherwise I just might be driving a new Duramax...

I heard from a ford shop that the injectors for the 6.0 are on factory backorder and don't know when they will see them. They have three down pickups now waiting for injectors. Same person said to dump the pickups while you can because you won't be able to afford them after warranty.

All 6.0's have a block heater installed when the engine leaves the Navistar plant, not all of them however have the power cord attached. That way they can charge you extra for the cord. All 6.0's have a 100,000 mile/5year warranty on them also when they leave the dealer lot.
My bro's 6.0 starts good if not plugged in down to around 0-5 thats when he starts to think about it. But he also runs Rotella 5-40 synthetic in the winter also. My 2 on the subject.

Don't you have 100,000 miles engine warranty. I have 05 I think I do.

Hey Mike
You only need to plug the heater in your truck if you intend to drive it. It can be on a timer with the appropriate amp rating, and made to come on 3 to 4 hrs. before you need it. At 32 degrees your glow plugs is all you should need to get it started it.If it gets colder, say 20 or so then you will need to plug it in. No need to plug it in the night before!
Guido.

WHAT???? That truck should start easily well below 32 without it being plugged in! That service tech needs to go backto school!

Interesting. I customed orderd my '05 as well, but being in central Calif, it never occurred that I might need one. I wonder if it is standard on mine as well...

I'll have to wait until it gets back from the shop to find out. 3 years, 50,000 miles, and 12 visits back to 3 different dealers and I still have the same oil leak it had the day I drove it home...
