Was doing some research on my Duramax when I ran across a thread dated Feb 19, 2003. It stated diesel fuel prices hit new all time high. $1.70. Sounded like it was the end of the world.

On road Diesel here in upstate NY 1/22/08 $3.75 a gallon. 89 octane gas $3.31. Why are we paying more for diesel, when its refined less?

Just got back from a quick trip to Texas and I saw it for $3.12 in a couple of places as I flew by but the cheapest I bought was 3.14 - somewhere around San Antonio. It's 3.42 here in western Colo.

Diesel here has been 3.57.9 for the last month at least, gasoline has been 3.09.9, just dropped .10 yesterday on the gas, but not the diesel. When they raise the diesel price locally, it NEVER goes down regardless of what gasoline does. I have driven over to Alexandria, MO to buy diesel for the tractors and my one old diesel pickup I need to put back on the road for fuel mileage reasons. I can usually buy diesel thru the pump cheaper than I can buy even farm diesel locally, figure it is worth the 100 mile round trip to not have to worry about getting any red dye diesel in the pickup. Bring it home 150 gallon at a time in one of the old behind the cab type fuel tanks. Do have a 500 gallon overhead tank here that I used to have fuel in, it is getting fun now to put a cheap padlock on it with nothing in the tank. Still have the padlock cut off sometimes, and hose laying on the ground. I just have to laugh at the wasted effort. DOUG

We all know that if the truckers had to pay this for fuel , this country would shut down because they would park. The oil companies knew this and figured the Govt. would get involved so they neg. volume contract prices with the carriers and some I've heard as low as $1.98. They know that "joe regular" and "farmer John" cannot just "park" like the truckers and get the Govt. involved so they make up what the truckers aren't paying on the backs of the rest of us. Do you really think the railroads , mining industry or the giant ships are paying over $3.00 a gal for diesel??? If they were , everything they transport would go so high we would stop buying and this false economy we live in would collaps even quicker than it is now. The rich will "buy out" the people they made poor and we won't be any better off than Iraq was under Sadam. Do we really think those people CHOSE to be "social servants" to him and his chosen few?? Eventually the rich (ie crooks) of this and other countrys will own all our farm land and pay the poor (the rest of us with conciences) $8.00 per hr. to farm it. How's $10.00 gal milk , $8.00 lb. hamburg , $5.00 doz. eggs or $7.00 for a loaf of bread sound to ya??? Don't laugh , it has and IS happening in other countries and has only started here. Farmers are commiting suicide at one a day in some countries because of manipulative crooks in cooperation with unscrupulous loan sharks (banks?loan institutions)setting them up for failure and forclosure at pennies on the dollar to get their land. It's allready going on here but everybody would rather blame the farmer for going in too deep rather than see what's really going on. Complain about the gas if you want , there is a much bigger and more urgent issue going on here and the common people of this country better learn how to band together and stop it. If not , civil war is inevitable. It's either that or we will live in a dictatorship just like Iraq and a lot of other countries that didn't stand up till it was too late. Sorry if my glass looks half empty. These are the facts. Give me some facts to contradict because I really am an optimist (I love fishing and farming) and I hate the fact that us optimists are the very ones that these "bottom feeders" take advantage of to gain their control. We all are thinking the same thing while they are screwing us , "why would they do something like that"?? I'm afraid it's gonna get ugly before it gets better.

$3.14 at the local Valero and $3.19 at the CoOp today. Funny thing, the fuel trucks are running steady across the border from Mexico. No, they are not bringing fuel in but instead buying it here and taking back across. Go figure.

Price been right around there for quite a while here. Interestingly very stable, while gas prices going all over the place, mostly up!
(Not that I'm happy with the price.) I had two diesels, car and truck a few years ago when diesel was half the price of gasoline - not only that, but both vehicles were pretty fuel efficient. I was making out like a bandit!

Here in Indy the property taxes went through the roof recently and the people were so fired up the Mayor was voted out in the election. You ought to see our idot Governor (and that's the nicest thing I can call him) and the rest of his clan scrambling to try to come up with something to pull the wool over our eyes before the election coming up. Once again it proves if the people stand up and do something about it things will change. Instead of listening to all of these jerks running for president talk about change the people should stand up and DEMAND change. But until that happens we will continue to vote the jerks in and sit around and complain. But the problem is we haven't seen anything yet, the worst is yet to come.

Here in the Finger Lakes area of NY. diesel is at $3.69 a gal. Some weeks the station lowers to $3.58 per gal. due to the high volume of semis hauling garbage to the area landfil. The Petro station does not lower their price. High volume of semis but on national accounts.

Around here we are $1.00/litre, so that's $4.55 a gallon or $3.62 US gallon. I have to replace my pickup (88 Dodge) but I need something that will carry 2 tons and that ain't gonna be fun at the pumps. We see a bunch of commuters driving 100 miles to work in Navigators and wonder How in the H... can they do this?

Filled up last Friday @ 3.32 for B20. Regular diesel at the station I used to buy fuel at is 3.27, but I swear, I get an extra 2 or 3 mpg with the B20. Confirmed by hand and the overhead, which I know is off, but it reads higher on B20 than regualr diesel.

Diesel is $3.19 here as it just recently came down 6 cents.87 octane is $2.79.A year ago gas was around $2.00 here.In May of 2007 diesel was 40-50 cents cheaper than gas at $2.69.Its amazing how sometimes diesel is 40-50 cents cheaper than gas and then can be 40-50 cents higher than gas.Fuel inventories are at a 5 year high.

You can thank the speculators for most of this. The only thing that isnt going up is wages.I take home roughly the same pay as I did 5 years ago thanks to rapidly rising health care premiums.

Guess what? I'm still going to complain.

UK - side it's about 70% tax, so the greed lies with the government rather than the oil producers. The high pound / dollar ratio has given a lot of protection against world prices - 'til now, fear is that the pound is about due to decline, when that happens - watch out !

There is no reason why it shouldn't still be around that price with the exception of the greed of oil companies and opec. One can only hope they choke on their money for what they are doing to the average person in this country.
Its funny, I hear people talking about, oh its $5.00 or more in England, no offense meant to those in Englad, but this is not England. Its a crime when it costs almost a hundred bucks to fill your truck, that is if you only have one tank. It should be against the law for them to be doing this, yes high gas prices and diesel prices kinda set me off!

How can we blame the oil companies for the prices when the product is bought and sold on the stockmarket. How many heard about the investor who bid 100 per barrel on one contract so he could be on record for the historic price then sold it at a loss same day at a loss or such as i heard as was reported on the radio. We still speed buy big gizzling things and wonder why supply is high in demand

Hi Gene,

I seen one number at $100.69 for one future contract. Then a week latter another reported $101. and some change.

Sure it was just a "look at what I did" trade for both the buyer and seller.

Well, lets see Exxon mobile showing record profits is one pretty good reason. You talk about the big gizzling(guzzling) things, well I can't pull hay trailers with a 4 cylinder S-10. some of us have to work out here in the real world producing food and such for this ungratefull nation and these fuel prices are killing us. When it costs $150.00 to fuel your 4430 for a day of baling it should be criminal.

Yeah, I`m near Oswego and that is the price($3.69.9), and the heck of it is that it`s #2, can`t even get #1, so between the ULSD and the gelling potential of the #2 you have to run additives in every tankful.

I think it`s about time that the government takes temporary control of the US oil market and stabilizes prices much lower, stop the trading of the oil. We are either just starting into a recession or on the cusp of one depending on who you talk to and high fuel prices are one of the most significant reasons IMO. `course Bush is too focused on fighting his daddy`s war to care about the rest of the US but what about our Congress people and Senators?
