I've wondered about this for a few years, maybe someone here can help out. As I watch the NFL football games on TV, I've noticed that on all team helmets, there is a piece of duct tape about 1" square that covers something up on the Riddell helmets. The spot is the same for all teams, at the back of the helmet about 2" above the rear bottom edge about 3" to the right side of center. I first thought it was a piece of tape to make the chinstrap snap tighter but it's not in that location. It's almost like they are covering up some sort of logo or symbol of some type. It's on ALL helments from ALL teams. I hope it doesn't say "Made in China". Now that would be a tragedy. Anyone out there notice that ever? Can anyone shed some light on what is being covered up?

Check out Ebay Item 320205747669. It is a "pro" football helmet that shows the safety warning label. They probably cover it up because with today's cameras, the idea of seeing "Danger" up close and personal on every helmet on every play would distract the viewer and not be very good PR. [/img]

Some of the new helmets have a g force sensor in them. They may be covering the PC jack for the sensor. Just a thought, but it would be a possibility with the size. There was a tv show on dateline or something of the sort a few months back. If I remember right, Indiana University was one of the test schools. If a player takes a predetermined hit registering a certain "G" then the sideline gets a warning from a computer and they pull the player for evaluation.

The pc of tape has a long safety warning on it. This sticker is required on all helmets regardless of level of competition (high school, college, NFL).I forget the exact wording and who requires it.

Are you saying that the duct tape has a safety warning on it or that the duct tape is covering a sticker that has the warning on it? If so, why would every player want to cover up a warning sticker with a piece of tape? Hardly makes sense especially in light of the fact that the NFL has pretty strict dress code rules.

The warning is printed on the sticker. It is applied directly to the helmet. It doesn't cover up anything. The print is so small that it doesn't show up on tv.

I wouldn't worry about it too much. As soon as congress gets done investigating the baseball scandal they'll get right on top of it.

I think they are going to try to surrender first, again, and THEN they can investigate the illegal use of duct tape.
