I am having my independent PTO rebuilt on my 340 utility. Does anyone have any advice on how to remove the assembly and any specific challenges or obstacles I need to pay special attention to?

I have pulled a mess of them...better if you have the manual...but it's pretty straight forward.
Don't know about a 340...but if there is a seasonal disconnect unter the tractor...make sure it's engaged.
Back it up on blocks to try and keep as much fluid in the case as possible.
Unhook the linkage and remove the 4 bolts and pull it out.
Going back...put a light coat of hyd oil on the o-rings so they slide in better. Be careful not to pinch them as they go in. You may have to turn the shaft a little to line up the shaft inside.
Bolt it up and lower the tractor to level ground. Check the case oil...fill it as necessay and go for it.
One note...make sue no dirt or water gets in that case while it's open.

Thanks for the info. It sounds pretty straight forward. I wasn't sure if there were any special alignments that needed noted when putting back in.

Just make sure you lube the o-rings and go in straight...it's a tight fit.
You will see that when you start trying to pull it out.
It's heavy too...be ready.
