I have a MM G1000 Diesel that ran great until late summer. It starts and idles fine, but when you open the throttle the engine revs up for a few seconds and returns to an idle. Even with the throttle pulled wide open it will set and idle. We have cleaned the fuel lines put in new filters and drained the fuel tank. Someone suggested that it may be the govenor and it is idling back the fuel pump. I understand govenors on gas tractors, but havent dealt with them on diesels before. Any help would be apprieciated. I need to get it going before summer, we use it on the blower for filling silos.

It could possibly be the flex ring in the pump that the others are refering to, but most of the time that will plug the return fitting on the pump. You could remove this and check to see if it is plugged to see if it has failed. If it has have your pump repaired as this could lead to a seizure if let go too long. Another problem could be that the metering valve is stuck. This will make the engine do exactly what you are stating. No acceleration. This is caused by either dirt or water in the slightest amounts. Again the pump will need overhauled to clean all the debris out. Good luck!

Your injection pump needs a kit put in it. We've had this happen to a 4020 JD and a 190 Allis-Chalmers, there is a rubber ring in the head of the pump that comes apart reduces the fuel flow out of the pump therefore the engine will only idle.

Any time I've seen that when the ring fails the tractor will start and die.

The last one I saw was a 3020 that would stumble along indefinitely @ 1000 RPM or so. Appparently there was just enough fuel being returned to prevent a complete hydraulic lock-up. I wasn't sure till the pump shop had it apart that I was on the right track.

Any one think , Check to make sure the nut on the throttle shaft that goes into the pump is not lose, That the throttle arm turns sound's to me like its lose enuff that when he returns the hand throttle to idle it cacthes and when he throttle's up it turns and go's back to idle ,Flex rig they wont run they will start die right out .
