Ok, I'm ready to buy a new one. I'm down to the John Deere #790 or the Massey #1529. The Massey sure felt smooth and I think the loader will lift more. But, it seems JD is pretty bullet proof and holds value well. I would appreciate any feed back. I'm tired of looking! Yes the #1529 will cost a little more, but if its worth it, I'll pay more.

Not up on the Massey. The JD790 should be good, but for loader work the gear shift tranny is a pain. The 3000 series are alot more comfortable and user friendly, but do seem kinda cheaply made.

I'd be checking real close into a Kubota. There better series now have a hydro that atuomaticly downshifts for a load. They also have alot of other trannies that can be shifted on the go.

Not up on that 790. Is it built in India or China?

Its Yanmar, I thought they were Japanese. I'm not sure who makes the Massey,Iseki maybe?

I would walk away from the 790, especially for loader work. A friend has a 4wd one. It is too light in the back end, the loader was not very strong, there was a dead spot in the valve which caused the bucket to drop without warning, and the dealer told us we were not pulling back hard enough on the control lever. It overheated because we couldn't keep the grill screen clean while working. The battery went dead because enough dust accumulated on the + terminal to short to ground when it got damp. When we weighted the back enough to get traction and stability, it ran out of power. I like JD, but this was a disappointment. On the + side, it was cheap on fuel, and started easily in all weather. One real peeve: I'm a big guy, and every time I moved in the seat, I hit the loader control.
