I have a E Machine T 5230 with Vista from Best Buy that is about 5 months old. 2 times now in the last week, the screen will get white with lines moving across it and dim screen in background and then will go white with slashed lines running diagonally across screen. Have to kill power and restart to get it to do anything. Have Wildblue Sat, but don't think that's the problem.Any suggestions for a computer dumby? Chris

Mine acts up every now and then too. Whenever it does the Icons just go crazy. I usually let it run its' course and it is fine.

This is what it does

Chris

Try this Iobit link. I use it every day, it is brilliant. Looks for spy wares and crap like that. I am no techo but this one is worthwhile.

Hit the orange button half way down to load up.

All the best

Mitch

First make sure all your fans are working and the heatsinks are clean. Get a can of air and blow them out. I had the powersupply on my computer over heat and it did weird things. But it does sound like a vidcard. Is it still under warranty?

You can add a vidcard even with an onboard one.

I'm currently having trouble with my Vista. Keeps locking up. I'm now back on XP.

That system has an integrated video but I suppose it could be the integrated components going bad. I would try another monitor to see if that eliminates the problem. Other than that I would try to reload the video driver to see if that clears up the problem.

Boy, dunno Vern,

Just don't think a 'soft' fix is gonna repair a 'hard' problem.

Been wrong a million times before tho. :>(

Allan you are right and also since the video is working most of the time and goes haywire on an intermittent basis it probaly is a hardware issue. Soft drivers don't change over time.

Also try to power down only the satellite system and leave the computer powered up to see if that fixes it.

Make sure all connectors are properly seated. especially to the monitor, but check all.

Try to narrow it down by eliminating anything that you've added to the system. Pull out any cards that you've added. Try a different monitor if you have another that will work. Once you're convinced that the problem is in your new system and not something you've added, take it back to BB.

My E-machine's screen turns light blue sometimes. I unplug the cables and re-plug them in a few times and that cured that. My screen also got jittery and what finally fixed it was an updated set of video drivers. I also think my intergrated video card is going bad because sometimes it dosent reboot. It takes 2 or 3 times for it to come up. It says that there is no video signal. I am not a computer geek by any means.
