I currently have a 706 with a front end loader & need to get a snow blower to throw the snow out to avoid drifts. I don't think that my 706 would work very good because the reverse is too fast & I have to go thru drifts 4' high. Any recommendations on a tractor that I could keep my front end loader, but would also work very well with a snow blower?

Your 706 will work just fine... you have to blow a path the first time through by riding the clutch a little bit... then just take smaller bites out of the drift, like 2 or 3 feet at a time. You don't need to take a full swath every time.

Our 1086 would sometimes spin out if the ground was slick enough, that worked great. Otherwise we just somewhat abused the clutch the first time through, then only cut a couple feet at a time.

As for the best IH tractor, any of the hydro would be great - I'd go with the Hydro 186 so you could have the quiet cab, diesel, and plenty of HP.

Personally, I can't wait to get into some serious snow with our latest addition.. the JD 4450 MFWD with powershift - it has a nice reverse creeper gear for the blower.

Any model Bidirectional with cab end 3pt would beat the #### out of any IH and you don't have to look over your shoulder!

This outfit will move alot of snow but goes to fast in reverse and doesnt have nearly enough power or traction in some situations. I dont know what the ideal tractor would be. Those hydros would go slow but not nearly enough power to utilize the blower. Good luck! bill

Yeah, I had one.....not much good. You have a "lemon". They have all the weight on the front axel. Go back a few years...186 hydro or a 5488 that's a tractor. I traded off mine with 900 hours and glad to see it go. That thing was next to worthless, wouldn't pull 6 bottoms ...my 5088 would...you had to shift down in tuff spots but it would pull thru. 7120 would sit and spin... it was about a 4 bottom tractor. That experience cost me a lot of money!!

Heck, I'm not complaining about the tractor. If I remember this blower has a 250 hp gearbox so Im way under powered and when you get pushing into big snowdrifts more traction would be nice. I liked the looks of IAgary's tire chains but with the tractor tires in narrow they would rub on that fuel tank and I dont want to move the tires for a few hours use on the snow blower. bill

Went through the Case-IH dealership's lot in Chamberlain, SD last week and they had a 1026 Hydro with a front wheel assist. That tractor should work great! We use a 1066 Hydro that works good. It works way better than our 1566 did.

Hydro 544 IH. Will use less fuel than a bigger tractor and is plenty of HP for a blower.

I'm running an IH 80 snow blower on a 1066 and it's too fast in reverse when taking a full cut in snow that's over 12" deep so I have to ride the clutch more than I'd like. After the first pass I will just take a couple feet at a time and then it will handle deep snow without using the clutch. Whatever you get your going to want a cab and one that seals up pretty tight.

Get Allan's Hydro. Most useless tractor in the world except on a loader or going slow. A Hydro will outclass any other older tractor for a loader tractor. Fairly reasonable to buy, but somewhat hard to find, at least in my corner of the world. Good hunting.
