You will love this story. I bought my Neptune used in 03. It came out of an estate sale so I didnt get any of the manuals. I called Maytag and told them I needed the manuals for the washer and dryer because I didnt get them when I bought the W/D. Then the lady asked me if I wanted to register for the warranty now since I was on the phone and they could just do it now instead of mailing in the cards. Of course being the honest guy I am I said, "Sure". Anyway, 729 days after that day with one day left on "My, LOL" warranty my washer takes a MAJOR DUMP! The motor crapped out, the seal was worn and the circuit board died! All of it replaced under warranty for a washer that was certainly more then 2 years old!

LOL!

PS. I have heard that Whirlpool is rated the best washer by Consumer Reports the past few years.

One of my customer's owns a Maytag store..I traded some labor for our front loader washer dryer..I haven't had but 1 problem in over ten years..Called him , he came out and had it fixed in a jiffy...There is NO reason that a washer "has to go to the shop"..Sounds like you need to find another dealer..If I can do engines , transmissions , steering clutches out in the field , there's no reason a washer can't be fixed in someones home..The only thing my wife doesn't like about them is the water level is too low for my nasty , greasy clothes..She has to add a good bit of water to make it clean my "Grubbies"..

Write to Maytag or let wife write to them. We bought a neptune washer and dryer in 1999 or 2000. Started having trouble with in the first year took them 2 months to fix, year later same problem they fixed it under warranty, next year same problem after a bunch of service calls and my wife having to run to laundry mat over and over, she finally wrote a very firm but not nasty letter detailing all the trouble. Two weeks later they called and said they would buy our machine back for $900.00 dollars. I figured it would Maytag credit but it came as a regular check. We cashed it bought a Whirlpool Duet washing machine had it four years, not one service call. Excellent machine, we still have are neptune dryer only replaced a belt and maybe an element.
These machines have been used heavily 4 kids 3 now adults all still home.

Ron, What went wrong with it? There are several good website that have articles on repairing boards for the door lock issue. I fixed mine for about $30. I would be glad to share what I know.Email is open.

I have a old Neptune (one of the first) that has less than 30-40 loads total use.

It was around $1,150.00. I was told by the dealer that Maytag dictated they could not advertize it for less. It started the first load throwing the belt, and they said to much wax when they cast the belt. I scraped with a sharp utility knife, gas etc. and it worked for aditional 25-30 loads and went dead. It is a major job getting in and out of the basment so I tried to do it all myself. I was told my basment was probably to damp, I told the dealer something about shoving something to a damp spot. It still sits in basment as I can't bring myself to throwing it away. I would guess it was purchased about ten years ago. Mine being one of the first lets a cup of water just inside the door so cloths had to be removed carfuly. It was supposed to save water, who knows?. I must say it did a great job spin drying the cloths, but I think it was one of the hardest lessons I learned in life. When Maytag bit the dust, I felt bad for the workers, and laughed at managment folks.

I don't even care for the height it holds my bead blaster at for the last nine and a half years. The top scratches easy with large chunks of steel being drug across also. I will never get over my complaining, ask anyone in town, they all know the story. They have heard it often. I figure cut my losses and complain till I die is the best I can do.

If anyone is in the market for a very good high efficiency washer I would recommed a Staber. Three years ago I bought one and it was a very good investment. It uses hardly any detergent and little water. It is built well, and if anything goes wrong it is designed so that the owner can fix it themselves. It's also made in the U.S.A. Check them out www. staber.com
I did notice the price has gone up a bit since I bought mine though, but still well worth it.

We bought a new Maytag Neptune washer and gas dryer in 1999. They only had to replace the water pump when it was less than a year old. We have had front loaders buying our first one in 1955 when I got out of the Army. It was a Bendix
and had one service call on it. This Maytag is
always getting mildew in it, never had that problem before with any washer. Maytag installed a new kit that was supposed to fix the problem, but never did. Keep the door open all the time when not in use. A few years ago they had a lawsuit filed against them and I joined the lawsuit. They were only going to give me $100.00
and take the washer, so I dropped the lawsuit. When it requires any major work we will scrap it. No problems getting the clothes clean. They should've been made to give back what we paid and take the washer. Our daughter bought a Kenmore front loader from Sears 2 or 3 years ago
with no problems. We had a Westinghouse front loader we bought in 1968 with no problems until it was about 20 years old and needed the springs replaced so we junked it. My sister and nephew
are still using an old wringer washer. One of my neighbors moved out and left enough junk to fill a big dumpster and had set out a Lady Kenmore top loader washer with a sign on it saying the washer was still in good shape.

I cleaned it up and offered it to my sister free of charge, but she didn't want it. I gave it to one of the men that pick up our trash. He said it worked fine. I had better quit. Hal

If they said you needed a board you can buy them for around $200.00 I put two in mine over a seven year period. The last time back in September I took a twelve pound hammer to it and replaced the whole machine.

I always wanted to pull mine through the 4th of July parade in Newton Ia (Home of Maytag)-on a chain and pay people a quarter to hit it with a hammer.

About 12 years ago I bought the Cap from Sears to repair all my stuff like this. So far it has paid off real good for me. Once a year they service everything and don't cost me a penny. I hope i can keep it but K-Mart want all of us who have the Cap to just die an go away I don't think its abig money maker for them.
Walt
PS We bought the Maytag Neptune when it came out and they just about replaced all of it at one time or another. Last year they spent $3000 on my $1200 mower, my cost ZIP nothing.

You might contact Maytag directly. Sometimes we run into a thing such as their is a problem, the factory knows it is a problem, they will fix the problem, but it is a spotty problem, so there is no bulletins issued. Won't hurt to call and talk to the factory, sometimes you, as an end user can get more out of them than we, as a service center can get. I am in the lawn and garden business, and that happens here at times, do not know about appliances, but it don't hurt to call. Just keep your cool, you can get a lot farther. you do need to get the repair estimate and ask them if this is a common thing to have to replace/repair in 3 years and then ask what the average life of this unit is under normal use. Sometimes you can get them to cover parts and you pay labor as a last resort type of thing to offer to them. Expecially if it is not a vendor item and they make it their self.

The Neptune series was a real heaadache for Maytag.

They celebrated by selling the company to Whirlpool, which shut down the Iowa plant.

So, Maytag ain't "Maytag", any more!

Pulled it out of the wall, took it apart, wash pump and drain pump both run. Lay the drain hose on the floor it will run out. *&&^$%#$%T$%#&^ I'm venting too right now. I need it!

Iowa Ron--that's most likely your timer. In my dishwasher, the motor reverses to empty, just like the clothes washer.

It has 2 motors. They both run. I took it apart and put it back together. It works. Guess the big guy upstairs just wanted to keep me busy.

They use to last 10 years. Would upset me big time also. Besides.. who ever heard of a washer for the home at that fix price. For now .. just go outside with out a jacket. Walk around and kick something real hard and cool off. Looks like a no win deal to me.
"Kicking helps me"
