Keeps you from falling on your bottom. You take a 3/8 screw with the hex head. Screw into bottom of boot several places. I used 10 for each boot... trust me.. no joke here. Works like a champ!...My other friends have done this since seeing my boots. They are very happy and don't slip or fall no more. Cost about 1.00 for pair of boots. They don't come out either. Mine are still going from last year.

These also work well, about $20 per pair if you don't want to mess up a boot. available form tirechain dot com. click on shoe chains. third party image

Thanks LA in Wi,... They did an MRI on my shoulder last thursday and said I'd have to wear a brace for my arm for 5 months (after the surgery).

I thought I better get it done as soon as possible so that I'd be able to use my arm when summer gets here and I have to put up hay.

I think running a tractor (and round baler) with my arm in a brace, is going to be a real "learning experience" (LOL), worse yet, it's my right arm, and all the "controls on the tractor and baler are right handed.

Reminds me of caulked boots that loggers wear.

I had two identical pair of leather work boots. The pair I wore at work , and the pair I wore every place else. Lots of ice at my place. If not carefull , my feet would go out from under me while wearing the boots I wore everyplace. Never had a problem with the boots I wore at work. When looking at the bottom of both pairs , the ones I wore at work were full of metal shavings.

We all wear ice-cleats at home most of the winter. We live on the side of a mountain and it's ice here much of the time. They clip one in a few seconds - even my four year kid wears them. We have have a ice cutting harvest every winter and everybody on the ice wears them. They work great - and come off when you don't need them.

I've used golf shoes to do the same thing. Also works great if your pressure washing a roof etc.

Great idea!! I fell on the ice the other day. I landed on my side and broke a rib. It makes all of my farm chores very painful. Throwing bales of hay isn't fun right now!!! I wish I had though of this idea a few days ago.

Thanks!!! Now maybe I won't break anything else this winter!!!

Wished I knew this bit of info back in 2003. That winter I fell on the ice several times, and now both of my knees 'lock up' if I bend them too far. It's like ligaments or tendons get caught in the knee joint and I'm unable to fully strighten my knee unless I grab my leg by the ankle and twist it around a bit to loosen up the joint again. Haven't had surgery, I just deal with it.

When I first heard of doing this to boots. I started laughing..and saying sure, sure. But then this gentleman said. Wait.. walked over to corner and picked up his boots and showed me. Then the lady who also works at place. Showed me that she to had them..... Was not laughing no more. Went to hardware store and bought 20 or 22 of them. Came home and put them on.. walked outside and even moved fast.. WOW was my words and thoughts.

Thanks for the "tip",... I'm scheduled for rotator-cuff surgery the 21st. of this month, due to a fall on the ice 3 weeks ago.

Old Iron,
After the surgery be sure to do the exercise things that the physical therapy people tell you to do. And do it exactly and as often as they say. I did and my recovery was a breeze...well, a real long breeze...it will take time, but you can feel improvement every day. Within 6-8 months that shoulder gave me more flexibility than the other one; still does. I had alot of people scare me with their stories of so much pain. Don"t listen to them. LA in WI

Ice creepers have been used by ice fishermen for many years.I have some old ones that are blacksmith made.My wife keeps ice creepers in her car.A security guard at her work place slipped and fell backward, he is in a nursing home now.My wife has a pair with coil springs that go on easy.I use some that look like sandals.Less costly than surgery or broken ribs.
