Right side slugish ( around 10%) on a 1816 case skid loader. Works somewhat better (around 30%) after it is warmed up, but is nowhere near 100%. Everything else works good on the loader. What test can I perform to it, or may be wrong with it. Also does it have any kind of valve on in that will let me put the wheels in a free rolling mode, so I could load it onto a trailer, when engines is shut off? Thanks, Larry

our 1845 did that, its been quite a few years, but if i remember right here goes. i may be a little foggy on the details so somebody chime in. directly under the seat on top of the main pump was a set of valves with a bunch of hoses. you need to find the ones that go to each drive motor lt and rt. then disconect the hoses, be sure machine is OFF. switch the rt side drive hoses with the left side drive hoses. the start the machine and see if the other side is now sluggish. if so there is slide valves and o rings and stuff in there. ours had bad o rings on one side. replaces the o rings and i think some type of plunger valve and that fixed the problem. its been 12 years or so, so im a little foggy on the details. the guy at the dealer gave me the info to switch the hoses around. if its not that then its inside the pump, 3-4k to rebuild that rascal.

I'm not familiar with an 1816 dont know if I've ever saw one. But if it has a hydrostatic pump/motor setup like the 1840/1845 then Pepper Boy gave you the best place to start.

You have to make sure both handles are moving it's respective pump lever as far as the other the linkages and bushings get sloppy over time and you gotta keep up with it. At times it takes replacing some parts to get full stroke back.

Our 1537s do that too, it's about clutches being worn I'm told. But with 3 of 'em sitting around it just hasn't been a priority to replace the clutches.

No freewheel mode or hydrostatic release here either, though we'll occasionally tow them by hooking a logchain on the back and pulling them SLOWLY for short distances. Longest distance we ever towed one was about 80 feet -- ran out of gas while pushing together a brush fire and the tires were starting to catch. Pulled it until the flames were out. Didn't seem to hurt it...

I had the same problem with my 1845c. When I sent it in for other service I mentioned that my left side was more sluggish than the right. The dealer said that they adjusted a valve and it would be ok, needless to say it wasn't. After several times of them "taking care of it" I pulled the seat and access cover to take a look. It turned out that all I needed to do was adjust the control linkage which I did and I haven't had a problem since. As far as being able to tow or winch, I don't think there is a way to disconnect to freewheel but as I recall if it is moved slow it shouldn't be a problem. I would call a case dealer and ask about winching or towing before doing it so you don't cause damage or more problems. Scott
