Or the lack of it. 2007 is officially the driest year on record here in Spartanburg county, SC. We got 31.08 inches of rain, previous low was 31.16 in 1954. The weather guessers are not expecting much rain in the near future either.

Over 31 inches of rain in a year??? That would be 2 GOOD years here, maybe 3 if it were timed just right!!!!

Must be what you are used to.

I never used that much moisture even when I was flood irrigating. :>)

Timing is everything. Most of our dry weather came during the growing season. Anyway, farming is set up here for more intensive agriculture. We would like to run a cow calf pair on about 3 acres, but not this year.

Then there's the population density.

Oh, BTW, in this area the water table does not support irrigation wells. 100 or so miles East it does, though where they have irrigation wells the water table has dropped. Some cities along the coast use wells for city water and they are having trouble with ocean water pushing into the water table.
