Thought I would introduce myself to yall. I've been lurking for the past month or so and finally decided to sign up. I enjoy listening to yall and hope I can help yall. A little info on me. I live in Worth County in Southwest GA. Our family raises chickens for hatching eggs for Sanderson Farms. I'm currently in college but hope to start farming our land again before too long. I'm still debating exactly what to do so I will probally run a few questions by yall to get the opinions of those who know. Sorry for the long post but thanks in advance.

This is kind of like going to church. Sometimes when someone hears something they don't like, they leave, but most stay and learn something. Welcome abord. Stan

Walt, I have honostly considered being a teacher, but my big fear is that I may kill them before they graduate. I swear that for every 1 person in the class to learn, the other 9 are there to cut up. BTDT. We do have a good sized farm however, 240 acres, not big by any means, at least not around here. Average farm size in between 1000 and 2000 acres or more.

Thanks for the reply.

Evergreen Rd. ain't too far out of the way for me. We're just up the road in Sumner. I assume your sister lives near Sylvester. It's nice to know theres one or two people that know Southwest Georgia. Take care.

Why not become an Ag teacher then buy a small farm or use your mom's to get started it would be great for you and the kids to learn on. a lot of Ag teachers out here wouldn't know Bean from Tater or how to start a tractor by hand.

hey Joshua, I have been on here for a while and have learned that if you hit the rite board you get strait out answers but hit the red board with a green question and you will get alot of ribbing same goes with the other forums but most people will just point you to the forum you need just make sure what forum you are in before you post.
With that being said my mother lives in Worth county on Evergreen rd. my sister lives on the other side of town can't remember the name of the road.

Welcome, you've got the right idea, the business part is the very hardest part for me, I hate paperwork with a passion, has caused a few problems over the years. Learn that, andnever turn a deaf ear to an old timers advice and you will do fine.

Hello. I'm going for an ag economics degree. I figured I would try to learn the business side before I really started playing in the dirt.

Nice to meet you. A lot of good people on here. My wife says I spend all my spare time (just time) on here. What are you majoring in at college? I have a son that wants to farm so bad but I can"t see how he can do It. I keep telling him he needs another profession as a stepping stone to it.
