You may or may not know that not all styled D's were electric start. It was a option. Dads 9th to the last D built is a hand crank.

Just another thought, if you plan to parade it and really play with it, I promise you an electric start will make you much more happy. If you plow at shows with it, you will have to start it to load, shut it off to haul, start it to unload, shut it off if everyone is waiting, start it to plow, and maybe shut it off and start it once or twice more before it's all over. Same with parades and such. Believe me it gets to be a hassle as the tractor probably won't start the same hot as it does cold. Even if it starts easy it's a lot of work. It is very nice to go hit the starter and have it take off. Either one would probably be a great tractor though. I do love the D's. Bob

Unstyled is considered 1938 and older. Unstyled tractors had the radiator showing or had a grill screen in front.
Styled tractors were 1939 and newer. The styled tractors have a form of sheetmetal in front of the radiator to make it look more appealing to some.

I had 2 hand starts. I forgot why I got rid of the first one when I bought the second. It will build some good upper arm muscles for you. I sold the second one also. Just to much work to crank it over.

Get the older one nothing like hand cranking and old machine for fun. I even hand crank my LA at shows just to show the kids what its like. Walt

Had a 1931 unstyled D and it was a bear to start by hand.Great tractor when running and alot of fun to drive. If I had my choice I would go with electric start again.Almost had to go back to weight training at the gym!

It all depends on what you plan to do with it. If your going to use it on the farm I would go with the one that has a starter. But if its for show I would go with the hand start. My self I had no choice on the D I hope to pick up Saturday its a hand start and the first one I have seen so I sort of got lucky when I found it. My wife has warned me if she likes it she will want it as her tractor

Do the right thing, buy both of them. I have a 27 and wouldn't trade it for anything but,if I had a chance to by another D it would have to be electric start. If your going to keep tinkering with this this so the ignition is always perfect, take the unstyled one but, if you don't have time or get sick of keeping the ign perfect, get the one with electric start. It's a lot nicer to just hit the electric start when they are not tuned up right.
