Nevermind what anybody GOT for Christmas. Did you GIVE anything special, once in a lifetime sort of thing that made you tear up or anything? I gave my oldest son a cow to get him started. He's 26,was obsessed with farming until he started auto mechanics class his junior year in High School. He milked with me until he graduated, but didn't want to do it the rest of his life. I sold the dairy cattle 4 years ago and went in to the cow/calf business. Two years ago,he changed jobs and said he missed farming but not milking. Wanted to know how he could get in to the cattle business. We made up a plan for him to start buying cows from me one at a time, but life kept happening and getting in the way,so he never had the extra money. So,I went out and took some pictures of a 3 year old bred Angus, put two of them in a double frame and gave it to him. He was a little confused at first about why I gave him pictures of a cow. The wife explained it to him. I haven't seen him that happy about a Christmas present since I gave him his first toy tractor.

Monday, Dec 24, I was eating lunch in a restaurant by work. A young solder, in uniform, with his mother came in and sat at the booth next to me. When I had finished eating I got up and walked over to him and thanked him for his sacrifice he is making and the important job that he is doing. His mother said that she had another son in the Army that was coming home that evening and that she had another son that had just gotten out of the Army upon returning from Iraq. Well I thanked her for all of her son's commitment to our freedom. When I went up to the cashier to pay my bill, I paid their bill also. I felt it was the least that I could do. I would have loved to have seen their faces when they found out there bill was paid in full including tip, but then I really enjoy doing that kind of stuff anonymosly. Oh yeah I told the cashier not tell who did this.

Had my wife believing I was giving her some se-y lingerie (which she really doesn't appreciate). She sure was surprized when she opened her gift and found a diamond necklace with matching earrings.

Wrote my lady a love poem. All that I can afford. The tools I bought her a few years back are still good. She tolerates me nicely.

After three months of telling the wife I didn't have enough time to go shopping for her (really makes her mad! but I figure its payback for her complaining I dont give her any gifts or spend enough time with her) I got her a diamond necklass. Granted it was the cheapest one in the store but she was pretty excited about it. She even wore it to the family christmas party and was proud to say she got it from me...So good till next year! But still don't have an answer to spend more time with me. Shucks, I never thought I'd fine a woman who wanted to spend time with me! ;-)

A friend at work has a 5 year old grandson that he adores, so I asked him if he thought his grandson would like a phone call from Santa on Christmas Eve. He looked at me funny and said he thought he would love it. We set up a time when he would be at grandpa's and I called and told him I was Santa and asked if he had been good all year. He said yes he had, and then I said I had heard he had been picking on his little sister some and he really needed to be nicer to her. Told him to go to bed as soon as he got home, I couldn't come to his house if he was awake, and I'd get behind schedule if I had to wait for him to go to sleep, wished him a Merry Christmas and said goodbye. I called grandpa on Christmas Day to see how it went and he said that Chase wanted to go home as soon as he got off the phone, he had to get to bed so Santa could come to his house. Thanked me again and I said that he could return the favor in a year or so. Chris

I gave my wife the engagement ring I couldn't afford to buy 25 years ago. Her reaction brought tears to both our eyes.

About that long ago,my wife shut her hand in the spring loaded door on the woodstove and distorted her engagement ring and lost the diamond to boot. She put it in her jewlery box and left it there a few years, kept saying she was going to get it fixed. Well,I snuck it out of there one December, had it straightened, got a new diamond put in it and gave it back to her for Christmas. She was surprised to say the least. My first real lesson in how good it feels to give.
