that time of year, lower level of birds go out today, upper level tomorrow, then we raise the slats and the clean out begins. Sad thing is I STILL have not decided if I am gonna spread that manure I am keeping, or pile it and spread in the spring. Would be nice to get it out there and be done with it, but I guess it is better juice when spread and tilled in. Have about 6-10" snow in the feilds. I'll be sure to take pics of the whole operation to share with you all. Oh yeah, got a new seat for the 544 for Christmas, that was all I wanted, sat on it in the living room floor and my goodness, it is so much more comfertableon the hind end.

Dave, we used to pile the chicken manure. The rains & snow would seal the top layers & the manure would compost in a months time. We moved 100 tons a week. Makes exellent fertilizer & even sold it to a couple mushroom farms & to cattle feed lots as feed, was very high in protien. The worms love the ground was spread that stuff on!!!

Here in western Ill, I see a few guys spreading manure on top of the snow, but looks to me like you would lose quite a bit to runoff on the hills. Not sure about an uncovered pile setting all winter till it could be spread, don't think I'd want it to be too close to my well. I don't have an answer, but do be careful, life is too short the way it is. Chris
