weather guesser saying we might get 5 inches plus
of the white stuff friday. i don't mind the snow but the ice is bad and we have had freezing rain sleet and snow every weekend in dec. i hope the ice don't kill my pasture.

Allan, I have a question. You've mentioned sparse moisture in your area of the state. Could you capture more moisture from snow melt and spring thaw if you went to deep tillage or strip tillage? I've seen you do a lot of moldboard plowing but no deep ripping. Maybe there's a good reason, like solid rock or something that would keep you from doing that. We've all but eliminated moldboard plowing in favor of, first, chisel plowing, but now, more and more farmers are going to deep till with very little surface disruption which seems to hold on to that moisture better and also gives plant roots a better path downward.

Dunno Bill,

I'm so old that I've watched that "no-til" fad come and go three times now and it just does not work in this area.

Good For You!! I think that it is pictures like this that are driving the futures prices. Next thing you'll be pouring slabs for the new grain binsssss. Enjoy the snow cause that's the way I remember this Season, not going for a big boat ride around Puget Sound like we are supposed to do later today! Kinda miss those cold white Iowa mornings. I guess I do. Actually I've never been to Nebraska; I will have to rectify that shortcoming.
