As you recall, the favorite daughter called yesterday from the airpot cuz after her Toshiba laptop puter went thru secutiry her display was dim n not much color. I tell her dads just cant fix everything..... Anywho she got home and its NOT a battery problem, I removed it n recharged n laid hands n even prayed over it all to no avail, all seems fine, still a dim monochromatic display NO MATTER WHAT I TRY. I hooked it up to a remote monitor n all is great on it. LOOKS LIKE HER LCD IS SHOT maybe the Inverter as a poster noted. I dont think it got nuked, just cuz it got bumped n roughed up in n out all the baskets n handling grrrrr

I calls the Geek Squad at Best Buy n its under warranty so bring it n they ship it to Toshiba n get it back in 2 weeks. In the meantime all her architecture grad school application info is on it so Im gonna have her set it on my desk hooked to my monitor so she can get that stuff done n printed. When she gets back to Dallas she has all her work computers or her new boyfriends to use I reckon. The first wife wanted to give her the old HP laptop until we go past there after New years but I say nooooo oooo I just got it all set up for me to take to Texas myself.

Merry Christmas yall

John T

John T:

Just read your post again. Goofed about the Texas part, that's where you are going, possibly not at. Anyway Richards has 4 shops according to their web site.
I have also had several other Toshiba's to Richards for repair and also purchased a new laptop from them. They were always fair and more than reasonable on cost of repairs, in my opinion.

John T:

You may try looking for a factory authorized Toshiba repair shop. My daughter had a Toshiba while in college that had a major problem, still under warranty. She was able to locate a place in Fairfax Va called Richard's computer www.richardscomputer.com, full factory shop that also has a shop in Dallas. She was in Winchester Va, & we live in N Central MD ('bout 70 mi from her). Picked up the unit from her, took to shop in Fairfax and in 36 hours it was done. Picked up, took back to her and she was only out of commission ~ 72 hrs.

Not that the Geek Squad can"t do it, but it may save several days/steps in the process.

Happy Holidays & good luck.

Edward

I'd like to know how this all turns out. We have a Toshiba laptop with the same problem. My son replaced the backlight, the invertor, and the LCD, and it still doesn't work. It works OK if you plug an external monitor into it, though.

Be sure you/she backs up all the documents on it. You never know what they will wipe when making repairs.
