I am having a lot of trouble with pack rats in my shop. They have chewed my battery charger wires in two. Chewed the wires in two on my shop light, and have started to chew on the spark plug wires. Any shiny nuts and bolts, wrenches etc. disappear with increasing frequency. Any good ideas for getting rid of them.?...so far baits haven't done the job. Thanks.

We have a little seasonal family cabin that my dad built in the sixties about 150 miles north of home. Every year or so we have packrats get in the woodpiles and under the porch. Nasty smelling destructive vermin that have to mark everything they can"t chew up. I"ve killed a few in the middle of the night with a flashlight and bird shot in the old .22 revolver. Have also had decent luck with spring type rat traps (the kind that look like oversized mouse traps) baited with peanut butter. Just make sure to set them where the cats and dogs can"t get to the peanut butter. I work over the trigger sear so they release with very little pressure and POWWW! Very gratifying too hear on go "Crunch" and there is no search for the dead carcass. Now if I can just get that !@#%$# caddy shack gopher that has moved in to our yard and the wifes flower beds. . . Our Idaho gophers are a bit like people here abouts, ever once in a while you run across a cunning one. Good hunting and MERRY CHRISTMAS TO ALL Don

I buy the packs by the dozen and put them everywhere, even in my baler where they like to nest in the baler twine and under my vehicles, including trucks. I find them dead and smell them all the time. Even under the (p/u)trucks, the bags show evidence of invasion and so far, no vehicle has been damaged. My shop manuals are usually a favorite target, but no damage since the massive bag onslaught.

I attracted a (1) wild cat as well and it worked outstanding until she decided to have kitten's. Now I have five around the place (kittens became tame) and cant get rid of the things (all females of course). One thing for sure, I don't see one rodent anywhere near the place anymore.
Anyone want a kitten?

I went to the shelter and found a very large, good natured tomcat who now lives in the shop area. Don't have packrats but when I hear him growling back in a corner somewheres I know some kind of vermin is about to bite it.
