Dear Forum,
The left axle seal on my 4T60-E is leaking. Can this be replaced by removing the axle, prying the seal out, and tappping a new seal in or does the transmission need to be disassembled?

Look around the area where you need to pry to get the axle out. It says "Do not pry!" Now who was thinking there? Can't seem to recall how we got it out. Probably pried anyway...

Brad is right on. Just be careful about how violent you get about removing the old one. It`s easy to gouge the aluminum housing, and then you can run into leaks around the outside of the seal.

Doesn't need to come apart.Pull the half-shaft and replace seal. The seal is tough to install because of limited access and the design of seal.

I use an exhaust pipe section of correct size as an installer and tap it in.
