I wes looking through the Photo Ads on tractors and noticed a Super H Farmall for 8500 bucks. Is this out of reason on the price or have I been selling mine too cheap.

I have a H and a 300U. I am underwater on both, but this is a hobby, not a financial effort. Cheaper than drinking.

Alot of times people will get that out of an old tractor sooner or later. All it takes is some one with more money than they know what to do with. There is alot of money comeing into rural America right now. Some retired doctor who drove an H as a kid who wants one fully restored and looking like the one he saw 50 years ago, 9 grand is nothing. Some dotcom kid who made millions as a 20 year old with a web site, that price is nothing for some pretty red thang to drive around his 10 acre yard on. No it won't go to some one wanting to plow tobacco (most common use for a H here) but sooner or latter some one will give it. Lanse was wanting to have a H shiped 1000 miles, all it would take for this tractor to sell would be some one of the same mind set and have the money.

It won't be sold in my lifetime, after that I suppose I have no control over it. I'll be sure to do my best to teach my children what those tractors mean to our family heritage and where we are today. Hopefully it will sink in and/or they will get the old iron bug.

I guess you don't have any "priceless" family heirlooms...

A Super H is a nice tractor, but not $8500.00 nice. They are nicer than a regular H but again, not $8500.00 nicer. This guy probably has a lot of money in this tractor and thinks he can get it back. If that's what he thinks, he might better have put his money into Mustangs. I see a lot of this, particularly with Farmalls. Someone buys a $1500.00 Farmall M, puts $3000.00 into it and thinks he has a $4500.00 Farmall M. Well, the market says he only has a $2500.00 Farmall M. A person had better be in this tractor game for love rather than money. (And I ain't knocking Famalls!! I have three Farmalls myself and I grew up on one of the world's greatest tractors, a Famall M!)

You guys are making me wonder what I am missing. What is it with the high priced SH tractors? I find it hard to believe that anyone in their right mind would even pay $2500 for a nice SH. I have guys call me quite a bit with high priced stuff. They get in over their heads and then they want someone to bale them out.

If it is a true restoration, I'm willing to bet they should have receipts for around $6000 worth of parts.

I have over $3000 in my H - and that is basically the engine and new brakes, haven't touched the transmission, clutch, or painted it yet.

It doesn't make any difference what you spent on restoring it,it's still only worth so much.
That's why you don't restore common tractors.

I didn"t say anything was worth a certain amount... just stated that it"s easy to get that kind of money tied up in a proper restoration/rebuild.

And besides, what my Hs are worth to me is about $10,000 each for their sentimental and family value. Those tractors mean way more to me than anyone else and so they just won"t be sold.

And, in the words of my Dad, "It"s worth whatever the next guy will pay."

Prices are a relative thing. Dependant solely on the seller, the buyer and their respective moods.

I just bought an old combine and paid wayyyyy y tooooo much. Then, turn right around and bought an old tractor that perhaps, maybe should have went for a little more?

Dunno, Think the best idea is to just quit buyin' and sellin' old iron. Always gives me a headache anyway. :>)

Allan,
When you're out there cutting that 10.00 wheat this summer what you've spent on that old Gleaner will seem cheap. Closed at 9.30/bu. in Kimball today.

I bought mine 53 SH stage I for $2000 two months ago. Older restore but awesome shape. I think 8500 is way to high but you never know what you can get for something till you ask!

Example, I bought a Farmall 350 diesel that was said to be in good shape and paid 3250 as it was. I had to have the motor completely redone, new electricial system, had it professionally painted, had to get a rebuilt injector pump and rebuilt injectors and numerous other things. By the time I got finished I had 7200 dollars in that tractor but finally had it right and decided to sell it. I knew what I had in it but also knew what it was worth on the market. Sold it for 5000 bucks. Called "The Law of Diminishing Ruturns" in economics.
