You never did say what tractor you were trying to put this Cummins motor in. There is a company out there, I'll try to find it, that will sell you the engine mounts, a different hood, and a different grill piece for the Deere articulated 4wd tractors to put a Cummins in there. In a 2wd or an MFWD tractor the 8.3 C-Series would be a whole lot more logical to use, that is what Case uses in there 7000 - 8000 and now MX series tractors and they cranked that thing up to around 300 hp give or take. Now they are using the 9.0 C-Series with the emissions choking them down. If you really want a Deere with a Cummins in it go buy an 8960 which had the Big Cam IV or an 8970 which had the N14. Make it an animal you could modify it to around 600hp but that requires pump, injector and piston changes. You could pull the factory engine out and install an N14-600 in there or even better yet put the ISX-600 if you want to spend money.
If you have enough time, patients and money anything can be done. It's just nuts and bolts.

I saw an 8640 with a cummins conversion at an auction last summer. It was a sharp tractor. It brought $20000. The owner said the conversion cost more than that.

Cummins has repower kits for a number of brands. Talk to Steve Mallicoat in IA- 1-319-366-7537. For Kinze, talk to Jim Spaid-1-319-668-1300.

I remember being in a Cummins shop in 1970 and they were putting a 903 in a 4020. Always wonered how that worked because of the extra HP.

I would not go with anything bigger than a 290 or 300 BC bacause you will tear up gears like crazy with one .

Best way to de-value the tractor I know of.

I would think a 'C' would be a lot more logical swap than a Big Cam. What are you doing that you need twice the engine of a 466? The 855 is probably more than twice the engine in it's physical presence, and depending on it's spec... a good deal more than twice in the HP/Torque department. Didn't they go up to 4-1/4 or so on the HP??
Seems like overkill to me. In addition you's need to change the fuel pump to a PTG to get the variable speed govenor. Cummins truck engines only maintain idle speed and a set maximum speed, and nothing in between.

BIL put a Cummings in his AC 7010. He liked it, more power on less fuel.

That was probably a 5.9L(360) Cummins and not an 855

That would be a good place to go to see how they do it. Kinze is still doing it i have seen brand new DEERES from the factory there for a bigger engine.
