whats a good little snow plowin tractor...Im thinking farmall cub, farmall A,Mayby a farmall C but its a little big or mayby a ford 8n or JD M

what other tractors are there that are about this size and how does these that i have listed work as plow tractors.thanks and have a lovly day-PAT

I would hate 2wd and a loader for snow removal. So little traction. I really don't have the patience for it. It's either 60 HP 4wd with a 6' bucket or a 75HP 2wd with a 7' blower. How fast do you want to move the snow? If you have a big yard and all day then what you listed is fine but if you want to get it done as quick as possible then 100 HP+ with a loader and a blower

I use a JD "M" for snow removal on a 1/8 mile long driveway in SE MN. Even with chains and wheel weights, it simply doesn't have enough weight nor HP to roll a big snow off a 6 foot blade. Gave up on the blade and now use a 50" snow thrower on the "M" which make things more quick. Still not ideal (gotta work with what you have) but gets the job done. I would look for a MF135 or equivalent. It has good weight to HP distribution and won't cost big bucks.

its a verry rare ocasion that we get anything over a foot i dont have then money nor care for a new fwd tractor its just something bigger then what i ahve that i can enjoy working on and playing iwth as a little hobbie that no one else has around me... i dont mind the cold so i dont need the cab or any other option

My neighbor uses a Cub, takes him an hour and a half to clear his driveway with it. I don't know how he has the patience. I use a Case 'DO'. Its about the same footprint and age as an 8N, but double the weight and power.

Since you aren't looking at removing a lot of snow it probably doesn't matter what you buy as long and you like it. In the latest issue of 'Antique Power' there is an article about a guy who restored an F12 and uses that to plow his driveway. Since it sounds like you want something unusual, get what you want. I recommend a Case 'D', because they are a tank of a tractor and are relatively uncommon, but I'm biased...

If it's just a hobby, get what pleases you... but none of them will leave you much patience for plowing snow if you 'need' to plow snow.

I used an atv for years till it was stolen. I went back to a tractor cause 2 guys cannot pick it up and put it in a PU. Picked up a Ford 1600 2wd, the 7' back blade works good but I adapted the cycle country 46"" blade to it. Not wide enough when angled so I have ordered a 72" blade to mount on the existing hardware. That should give me about 68" when angled. I shortened the ATV push tubes and was able to mout it to the existing lift. Seems it had a dozer blade on it and the prior owner cut off the blade but left the lift to move trailers.

I used to have a cub with a 54A front blade and I live in NC. I cleared one line of a .6 mile long road with maybe 3 inches on it using the cub and will never do it again. As it plows it only pushes snow off to the side just enough for the tractor to pass. The next pass you have to move that ridge over another few feet and that"s the problem. Now in fairness I think our snows are much wetter than some places and I did have hills to contend with but it was more work than I wanted. Frankly I could have driven through it so I"ve decided from now on I"ll just drive through it and if it"s too deep to drive through it"s a good excuse to stay home. Plus we get a lot of ice and it will not do anything with that.

I also owned a Super A briefly and sometimes I wish I still had it. It had a 3pt setup on the back with down pressure and worked real good with a pulverizer for finishing a yard--better than my dad"s Ford 601. It had separate independent lifts for the rear and mid attachments. They made a front/mid mount blade for it like the one I had for the cub that uses the mid lift. If I had that it would have been sweet. It had the weight and power to move more snow and I could have plowed with the front blade while having a rear blade on it for occasional use too.

I have a cub with a front blade and it does great for a light snow - under 6". I also have a 140 and it is excellent. It has enough power and weight to handle a good snow. It has the same basic power train as the C.

Would you have a 4wd truck you could mount a plow on? I think any of the tractors you mentioned are going to be limited in how much snow they can push but if you already have a truck a used snow plow can be bought pretty cheap.

Pat everyone in the cub forum just raves about their ability to move snow and i can tell you first hand they are easy to work on and easy to transport etc.I have one for sale but i live in southern illinois and at 6 mile per hour winter would be over by the time i drove it to ya lol

I have a choice of 3 units to move snow. A cub cadet garden tractor w/front blade and tire chains. ( it gets most of the use if 8" or less ) Then I have a ford 2n w/rear blade for everything the cub can't handle. If it gets really deep and has to be piled, I have a ford 861 w/loader that takes care of that. If you were closer to Iowa, I would sell you the 861, as it gets the least amount of use of everything else. My 861 is very similar to Leon's MF 65. So I would suggest something similar to the MF, 800 series ford, IH 404, JD 1010. The only reason I didn't mention the ford N, is lack of live hyd.

I just got back in the house after plowing my property plus three of my neighbors, (good 'ol Michigan snow). I use a 1950 JD B. Works just fine with chains on the tires.

I consider my MF65 a "little" tractor but might be bigger than what you a thinking of but it does a fine job a pushing snow.

When I bought my Oliver 55- the MF 65 was my next choice. I've got a loader and blade and that size tractor is a little one for me too but they are just the right size for a lot of jobs.

probably an a or super a would be a good choice. i'd lean toward the super just for the live hydraulics, easier to make a lift for the plow. i have a b set up for plowing, 7ft blade, chains and loaded tires. has a pto mount hydraulic pump. does a good job. if the snow gets outa hand, you may need a loader tractor. the little ford would be good too, if its got a 3 point, you can just get a back blade for it. you'll need chains and weight too.

sorry.. i only wanna buy antique tractors 2wd becuase is goona be used as a resotration show tractor to....ive used my cr@ftsman tractor with a 48 inch blade for 2 years now and i still use my Jd 524d snowblower after today we got about 6-8 inches of sleet i decided i want something that can move it..as i am writing this my neigbor is pplowing the snow fine with a bigbear but my tractor wont move it and it has like 200 ponds of weight on it plus me.. the plow flops over and its done..the snowblower moves i fine but 1 its slow 2 its not as fun as plowing!!!!

Hi Pat- I have a Ford 8N with back blade and works good. Only thing I don't like is not having live power. You have to work the clutch a lot because of that. Also, on my 8N reverse gear is FAST. I push snow in reverse not much above an idle. Good luck.

I'm going out to move a foot of snow right now. I am using the only tractor that I purchased new.
Ford 1520 4WD w/loader. I don't have the back blade on it....never took off the mower. That will have to do for weight. I have moved 18 winters worth of snow with it.

The best snow tractor is one that has 4wd, weighs over 1500lbs. and is HSD and AG tires. Oh and a front end loader. Of course middle class guys like me have to settle for a 8Hp Simplicity snow thrower and a Polaris ATV. I have seen my neighbor use a Case skidsteer loader for snow, it goes through any amount of snow and piles it up high.
