third party image

WOW! Alot of great guesses.I think the add-on headlamps may have thrown a few off.Alot of Massey guesses. The hinged hood should have given it away.I had to actually look up pictures of Massey 1500/05 and 1800/05 4WD's and they are remarkably similar.

Here's the Versatile 500 w/Cummins 504 V-8 this fall working bean stubble.Pretty unique sounding tractor at full flight, almost eerie sounding!Bought it this spring with 3475 hrs.

Some sharp eyes. The Missus was riding with me for a couple rounds. She's the other image in the reflection.

Pulling a Glencoe 9 shank soil-saver disc-chisel.

aland and George G were the closest.Honorable mentions are 55 50,Holm,and 4010 guy.

Thanks for playing!! ~brad

Ah! Thanks. Now I can get back to work! I must have bad eyes or a bad monitor because I can"t see an image of a person. The picture I have of a Versatile 500 shows the exhaust coming out the top of the hood. Did you modify that exhaust? Or maybe the photo I saw is not correctly identified? This was a great posting idea.

Hey 55 50,

The exhaust is factory.I had to look pretty close at the image once someone pointed out the reflections in the front glass.

Glad ya had fun.Now git back to work!! LOL ~brad

Looks like it could be a White articulating tractor. I think that oliver made the same thing but in oliver colors. Moline had one to.

Are we allowed more than one entry? Versatile 500s had the air cleaner coming out of the hood like this but also the exhaust came out the hood instead of off the left front. However some early Versatiles did have left front exhaust so it could be a Versatile 145 with Cummins V8 (180 HP) or Versatile D118 with Cummins V6 (140 HP).
However the color doesn"t look right for Versatile, color seems to favor Massey Ferguson.
Also the above mentioned Versatiles had headlights built in to the grill/radiator area not hanging off the side like this photo shows. Further evidence that it"s a Massey Ferguson.

Further investigation shows Massey Ferguson had headlights built in to the grill/radiator area too. Allis Chalmers 440 had lights off the side of the grill area. Wow, the mystery deepens. Could this be a hybrid meaning it has pieces of more than one make? Brad, hurry with the answer. I'm not getting my work done, just thinking about this!!!

Versatile 500. Has air intake on the hood. LH front exhaust. Has to be it. I can even see the "V" from the sticker in the back window on the reflection on the air intake. Versatile 500 for sure.

Could that V be the first half of the W in White? Just a guess. Seems closer to the center of the back window than the first letter of Versatile would be. I dunno, just idle speculation.

Good point. I think that the profile of the person you see in the reflection is not the driver but a passenger sitting the the back lh corner of the cab. I know Vesatiles had the name on the back window. Did White tractors even have a sticker in the back window?

I think you could be right on the Versatile 500. I found a picture similar but the air cleaner had a 90 deg. rubber boot out the hood. Dave

It kind of looks like a 1000 or 1005 series Massey but the air cleaner stack through the hood and and no rad cap makes me think it's not a Massey. I'd guess on Cat engine though. The shroud around the rad looks Massey as well but from what I can tell from a few pictures, Masseys didn't have a hinged hood. I could be wrong. dave

I'll guess at Massey...
The Versy's were all Cummins powered that I know of... and with Cummins power comes a right hand exhaust manifold, hence the right front mount for the muffler/stack on the Versy's.

From the stencil on the breather pipe, it looks like the White Shield from years back with the "W" cut into due to the curve of the pipe. But then the color dosen"t match. The band around the hood looks like MF, I"m guessing series after the 1805. LE

I would guess an early MF 4wd too but pretty sure it isn't an 1800 or 1500. Our 1800 doesn't have a seam down the middle of the hood. Possibly an 1805 or 1505 since there are no visible front tires where there should be in a 2wd. The muffler is in the right spot for a MF too. Yeah I'd guess and 1805 or 1505... final answer.

Massey Ferguson, based on location of the exhaust. Versatiles typically had the exhaust at right front rather than left front. If it"s a 4 wheel drive it seems you should be able to see the front tires so it"s probably a rear wheel drive. Not familiar with Massey model numbers.
