Have a chance to buy a 1950 chev pick up. Guy says it has a new radiator in it and it ran when he parked it in his shed. Body looks to be pretty good but needs paint badly. Any how what do you guys think it would be worth. It needs tires also not sure how the bed floor is.
Thanks for any ideas of what it could be worth.
If I get it my son will e the one who ends up with it as his truck to go to school etc.

For git the fact I don't like ya never know i mite like ya son,,, to train yer son this would B about as EZ a fixer upper as i know of.

At one time i got to were i could drop a V8 with a automatic and change out the rear end in a day on these old chebby trucks,,, if the front end was off,,, fenders and hood

A 57 chevy car rear end will bolt up to the springs (other may werk I had a stash of the 57's) enny chevy car 6 or V8 and automatic will fit. No power house needed,,, a 307 will do.

You will need to off set the engine a little to the right to clear the steering box,,, if you plan to use the OEM box

Take the drive shaft out of the tube and you will have the best pry bar you can find.

I can not think of a better truck to fix up,,, back when i werked for nuttin I would do the swap for $200 labor and a 100 in parts and material and thought I was stealing from'em. At that time the labor rate was 8 to 10 bucks a hour.

My dad died in 1990 and had a 5 window that was completely restored original,,, all that it needed was the bed installed. My BIL ended up with it and sold the bed,,, best bed and fenders i have ever seen, he wanted a stake bed,, dum arse. to this day its sits were my dad left it in a shed,,, No bed. To make matters worst I did the swap on his 50 for free,,, next week he sold it. 1/2 a turn or 3/4 it would not matter to me,,, I had rather have the 3/4 are better enny way,,, take a Flore shift over a column enny day.

Old chevy sixes are just about bullet proof, IF you keep the rpm down and the bearings adjusted. Got to keep the oil pump screen clean. Ran an old '53 with the old dipper rods to 130,000 with the old non-detergent oils of the day. hate to guess what it would have done with todays lubricants.

Old Engine is a 216 dipper feed to rods if it starts donot put it on road till you pull oil pan clean screen. If screen is clean hard to kill engine.Pull road draft tube off block and burn carbon out of pipe

As long as you can't see the road conditions by looking at the floor while drive on the road you have a chance. Good learning vehicle. Easy to work on the motor.

I had a "56 F-100 for a daily driver in the "80s. Unlesss an old truck has undergone a ground up restoration they are a regular maintainence project. Never had any problem getting parts from local Ford dealer. Brakes, cooling, rusty tank, vacuum wipers, everything. I sure learned a lot about vehicles with the thing, and dearly wish I had it back now. If the kid likes tinkering it may be great for him. If not...

Along with what the others have said, It will also depend on how long ago he parked it and if the engine has set up.

You can throw figures at it all day long and basically it boils down to what are you willing to give and what is he willing to take. If it has been a long time since it was run, but the engine will turn over... You could probably start out around $500 and go from there. If the engine is froze up and needs a complete rebuild, you can probably start out around $500 and go from there =)

Main thing to remember about something setting for a year or more, especially that old... You can bet that you will soon have brake cylinders leaking if they aren't already.

One that is in running and driving condition will start out around $4500.

I own a 52 GMC 3/4 with the 270cid 6
I would not sell it for 5000. It is rust free and parade ready. It is an AZ truck. 17inch split rim with 12 PR michlenX JimN

If it's a 1/2 Ton it's worth considerable on the Custom Car or Hot Rod Circuits of Az. or Calif especially."52 Five windows are in demand but a "50 would draw just as much attention. Don't let the seller get any where near a Custom Truck Magazine.LOL,JC

Hey old, 1/2 or 3/4 ton? It makes a lot of difference in price in the open market.

I didn't look all that close at it but I think its a 1/2 ton. From what he said it ran 2 years ago but I know how 2 years can be really 3 or more. Rear fenders are off of it right now and sitting in the back. I would like to get it for my son so he can have it to drive to school etc. but still have something he can't get a speeding ticket in easy LOL. I know stock it will be all it can do to get up to 55MPH

I used to sell a lot of Model T's to a dealer in KS who is also buying those trucks now. From your description, I could probably go 5 to 7 hundred on it and still make some money if it is 1/2 ton. Naturally, a short box is even better. Many fond memories of them, a lot of friends had them and I had a short box '58 with a six. Really tough trucks, several hundred thousand of my fallen brain cells would attest to that!
