PCM is located at the RH side behind and below the glove box.

The replacement is a eeprom type meaning a service program will have to be downloaded or "flashed" into the installed unit before it will run.

The PCM is about 200 bucks,GM dealer to download software to vehicle around 100-150 bucks. There's actually nothing you can do yourself, because they need to request info from your old pcm.

Why do you need to replace unit?Hasen't been alot of problems with these.

I expect to change it because the mexhanic that diid the dianostic on it says the reson it runs so radically rich and powerless (only at times) was believed to be it was the fault. Would a used type replacement just plug in and be okay without any downloading ?

I'd get a second opinion.Doesn't sound like the pcm at all.Any codes or service eng light on?Which engine 2.2 or 3.1? Any more info would help narrow it down.~brad
