Clutch will not disengage. With the engine running and the clutch pedal totally pressed down, I can not shift into any gear. All the gears do is grind. I was able to move the loader by turning the engine off , shifting the gear lever into the lowest gear and restarting the engine. The loader immediately began to travel.Know remember, I have the clutch totally pressed down. If I try to release the clutch pedal the engine chokes down and stops.

My problem is obvious, can a shadetree mechanic like myself fix it?

I would appreciate some advise,
Russ

Depends it this all-of-a-sudden happened - or it had been parked for a long time. I also depends if it is a engine-clutch driven machine, or a hydraulic-reverser macine. 1010s came either way - but most have hydraulic reversers.

Does it have a reverser?

Yes, it does have a reverser. The loader has not been setting up recently. For the past year and a half I have been operating it at least every two weeks. About two months ago the reverser lever stopped working in the down position, so I left it in the up position and changed movement direction by using the foot pedal clutch and shifting gears. One of the gears reverses direction.(Probably not a smart thing to do but it seemed to work OK.)I don"t know if this info is important but the engine is a diesel and runs great. Serial #13892D

By "up" and "down", I assume me mean "forward" and "reverse?"

If so, then you've lost hydraulic reverse - but forward was working - and disengaging - up to now - correct?

What you need to do is stick a pressure gauge into the reverser-control-valve. Put a 150 - 200 PSI gauge into it. Run the machine. Pressure should be 100-130 PSI. Push the clutch in - and it should go to zero. If it DOES go to zero - but the clutch does not engage - you've got internal damage in the reverser and it needs to be taken out and torn apart. If it does NOT go to zero - you've got linkage problems going to, or inside the control vavle and you can probably fix it without tearing the reverser apart.

That's correct, I did mean forward and reverse. I have a mechanic friend who may have a pressure gauge. Thanks for the help. I'll try to keep you posted on how things progress.
