Stopped at the local feed mill tonite after work to check corn price for river open, $3.94. Was told that GPC (Muscatine, Ia.) was wanting corn real bad and was paying $4.03 for first week of Dec. I was going to leave a sell order for 3000 bu for river open, but if I can get someone to haul it, I might just as well sell it now and save the interest $$. I don't have enough to be worth owning a truck, so I sell thru feed mill because he will haul it when ever I want to sell. Guess I'll call a neighbor and see if he wants to haul some corn. Chris

Sold today for $3.94 Jan delivery. I've been making small new crop sales @ $4.00 all along and new crop bean sales @$10.00.

As the saying goes, "reward the market". Now is not the time to get greedy looking for the top, reward the market for getting you an exceptional price.

Good for you, a 15c premium here would only get the basis back to where it should be.

We let some go today. With all the talk of ethanol plants on hold and auto makers scaling back or eliminating E-85 vehicles, something's gotta give.

Here in NW Iowa our prices are getting closer to the river prices. Usually we are at the bottom of the barrel. Local elevator is 3.67 Ethanol plant across the road from the elevator is 3.86 and the chicken farm is paying 3.71. The market availability in my local area is completely changed from a few years ago. Two years ago the local elevator was about the only market available to me and every elevator was bidding the same. Now I have three markets within seven miles and a very large feed mill seventeen miles away. The price spread between them can easily be 20 cents. It's the reason why I put up another bin this summer. Paying 18 cents to store corn in the elevator would have locked me into having to sell to them for the lowest bid in the area. Jim

I'm in Minnesota, things have changed a little, haven't they? More trains seem to go to the West; we got an large hog feed mill many years ago, and surrounded by ethanol plants now. Like you say, used to be 2 coop elevators was the only real game in the area, and they were the same, 35-50 cents under.....

The ethanol plants are all closed coops - buy only from members, but they still put some drive into the corn market, as they take a lot of corn off the table, the rest of us are left to supply the feeders & shipping. One coop aligned itself with the ethanol plant, the other coop got in better rail facilities.

So far the rail is paying better most of the time. Can see a nickel to 15 cents difference, if they need to fill 100 cars.
