Ford 3000 Diesel with water in oil and leak

Just bought a Ford 3000 Diesel and noticed I had a leak coming from the right side of the transmission where the base of the brake pedals go into the transmission. Also noticed the fluid was light brown I believe showing water. Checked both transmission oil and rear end and they both look the same.

I plan to change the oil in both. Someone recommended filling it with Diesel fuel and running it for a couple hours to flush it out. Has anyone heard of this? Also can I put some sort of stop leak in with the oil to prolong putting in a new seal.

Any help would be appreciated.
Jon

If memory serves , I think the pedal shaft is sealed with o-rings..I would flush the trans and rear with a 50-50 mix of fuel and hydraulic oil , and run it for 10-15 minutes only..It only makes sense to have some lubricant in there to save your bearings from premature failure while the tractor is running..The water is coming in somewhere...Top cover gasket , trans shifter cover gasket or typically water running down the shift lever and going past the o-ring under the plastic deflector boot..

Yeah straight Diesel fuel made me a little nervous. Do you think I could use some stop leak or do I just need to change the O rings or seals? The tractor will now have a home in a barn...out of the rain.

There is no stop leak that works that well..I"ve seen some bottled "Snake Oils" on the store shelves that proclaim they stop oil leaks..I have yet to find one that works..I"d just change the o-rings and be done with it..If your tractor must stay out sometime , tarp the rear half from the rear edge of the hood to over the seat..That should keep rain off the top covers..In order to change that shifter shield o-ring , you will have to remove the shifter cover and put the shifter lever in a vise to get that pesky round snap ring off the lever..Then change the o-ring and the plastic shifter lever shield..
